Mosin fade...

So i cleaned my mosin with hot water and just soap and the black paint on its starting to fade out turning more of a grey now is there a way to bring it back to looking half decent again its a refurb So its pretty beat up with tooling marks etc but id like to at least looking the best it can.

Isn't your Mosin black phosphate treated (like impact socket wrenchs)? It should be and oiling should get it back to the dull black colour.

Yeah im not really familar with milsurp finishes thank you though i will try that out for sure!

Soap residue/mineral deposits left behind? Give it another cleaning with just cool water, hit it with WD40 (it displaces water) then give it an oiling with your oil of choice, bet it comes back.

if the paint is still there, is likely absorbed some water , and the colour should return once it dries.
