Mosin front sight height?

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I wasn’t able to find anything in the archives. My beloved 1941 Mosin shoots a foot or more high at 100 yards, which I understand is fairly common. This is with standard 150ish grain milsurp ammo. I’m wondering what other folks have done to bring down the POA-POI at this distance? For example, I used a piece of heat-shrink tubing to extend the front sight post about 1/8” . Worked well enough but it’s pretty crude. One of these days I’ll get a Smith Sights front post but in the meantime I’m interested to hear your bubba solutions. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried firing it with the bayonet on?

I have an ex dragoon that shoots point of aim without the bayonet on. At some point material was removed (filed) from the bottom of the rear sight slide.

I did try putting the bayonet on a few years ago when I bought it but it’s so tight I didn’t want to force it. I do know that they usually shoot closer to POA with it on but I prefer it without. Mine shoots well with my bubba front sight, so I guess I’ll keep using that until I get a taller smith sight. Thanks for your input!

This was probably 10 years ago now, but I got a replacement site from a guy in the states. You just had to drift off your original and install this new one. He used original mosin sights to make them and the cost was less than $40. You could get them with red or neon posts on them if you wanted. Put my gun right on paper at 75-150 yards no problem. I'll dig and see if I can find the link again. I also stripped vinyl tubing off a trailer wire and crazy glued it onto the front post. Works, but not as nice as the sights this guy made.

I guess I should have taken more time to read your initial post. Yes - Smiths Sights is what I bought. No regrets. Works great. The red post is nice in low light.

I bought one of these sets...as I recall this gent is Canadian and his items Canadian made.
I bought the sight and tool. Very nicely done items.

Not sure if he's making them anymore per his site...

Thanks Cantom, that looks great. Unfortunately looks like they’re not taking any new orders. Last update says check back in June 2019. Too bad, would be nice to order Canadian and I like that adjustment tool. Might email them anyway.

Give him a shot...and let us know if he answers!

As I recall, even when I got mine, he had to make them for you when you ordered them.
