Mosin in military service

in use by Ukrainian forces this days.By my friend report around 15% snipers in their regiment using good old Mosins

None of the weapons that were ever issued in Russia or Ukraine are phased out of service. At some point they can be pressed in to service again if needs be. That's why 7.62x54 is the longest serving cartridge in the world. In some cases even Mosin Nagant can be more useful than AK. Any way weapon on hand is much more useful than no weapon at all.

I don't agree with what Russia is doing, (even though I have many red rifles)…..I wish your friend the best… I think Putin is scarier then we all think he is.

Or an AR, or any of the modern intermediate cartridge rifles. I did my first (and so far only) vintage rifle shoot earlier this summer. There was also a modern rifle class at the shoot. The AR's were drilling perfect scores out to 300meters. At 400 meters, they just fell apart, and all the old full powered rifles were still chugging away dropping rounds in the black - and the really good shooters were doing it with open sights.

If you know the strengths of your rifle, and just as importantly, the weaknesses of the opposing rifle, you can be effective. An accurate, full powered, bolt action rifle, in capable hands, is a force to be reckoned with on any battlefield.

Hardly surprising.

It was more than enough to kill whatever you needed dead 70, 80, 90... Hell, 125 years ago(!!), and it's more than enough to get the job done today. The target hasn't changed - just the uniforms.
