Hello folks,

I was wondering if anyone here can shed some knowledge on this subject. I've looked through the forum and elsewhere and can't find much information on it.

I'm trying to desporterize a mosin m44 carbine that has had its barrel bands removed and stock cut. The problem is that the new bands are too small to fit over the bayonet lug.

I've heard of people bending the bands to fit over but im afraid I will be unable to bend them tight again once over the lug(others have gone this route and had this issue).

The other route is to take off the bayonet lug and front sight via two pins. However I've heard they can be very hard to get out without using heat which I do not want to damage the finish. Ive also heard people have had issues reinstalling the pins after and getting them tight again.

So has anyone here attempted or successfully done either of the two above methods? If so do you have any suggestions/tips? Is there another way to get them on that I'm not thinking of?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

I thought i managed it once with the bayo and screw removed, but for sure know i opened them up more than once than squeezed them back. Of you wanted a really good result i used a padded vice to gently squeeze them together.
