Hey all,

Inherited a Mosin M44 yesterday that I can seem to get the bolt to close on. It comes out when I pull the trigger and goes back in, but will only slide in about halfway before it really binds up. Well before the lugs are engaged.

Any idea of what's going on with it? Will post some pics later, I'd also like help IDing it, I'm pretty sure its not Russian. (non cyrillic writing on it)

Bolt must be incorrectly reassembled. Google "mosin-nagan bolt dissassembly/reassembly".

Sounds like the firing pin might not be screwed in to line up correctly with the notch on the cocking piece? This causes the connector bar to not line up correctly in the receiver, which prevents it from closing. Screwing in the firing pin so the notch on the back of the pin lines up with the marks on the cocking piece fixes this problem. This happened to me a few weeks ago.

Hope this helps :)

OK I will disassemble/reassemble the bolt when I have time. Here's the pics, pretty sure this is a Polish M44.

UPDATE the bolt is assembled properly now. You can see in the bottom pic how it wasn't quite lining up in the back end. Nice little rifle!

Yeah the bolt seems pretty simple but it's a bit of a Chinese puzzle the first time you take it apart.
I just acquired an M44 (the counterfeit one, lol; another thread) and they are a handy little gun. I like mine a lot.

The GUIDE RIB has lost its grip on the Firing-Pin.

THAT is what is stopping it from moving forward.

SHOULD be able to pull the Cocking-piece back and slip it into position.

If that doesn't work, strip it down and assemble it right.

Problem solved.
