About a month ago I picked a Chinese mosin m44, At the time I did not look rifle very closely as it was a package deal with 2 others I really wanted so it came home with me any way.
Fast forward to today and I finely pull it out for a closer inspection and I notice a hole drilled in the chamber... Can any one help shed some light as to why?
Checked head space and all is on order. At first I thought I may have been decommissioned due to head space issues, but that does not seem to be the case. Closes 50% on no-go gauge View attachment 215229

.
Another fine example of Chinese quality control?

Seriously, I would venture that this is a drill rifle, possibly for younger people at schools. Usually the firing pin has been ground off, but in this case, with a non-matching bolt, it seems that a different bolt has been substituted.

At this point, you probably have four choices:

1- Keep it as a Dewat example
2-Sell it as a Dewat
3-Change the barrel ( a WTB on the EE )
4-Donate it or sell it to someone who teaches the Hunter-Safety Course

If it is sold as a Dewat, I think I would grind off the firing pin to be certain that someone could not put a live cartridge in it and pull the trigger.
