Mosin Nagant 91/30 cut to M44 size?

Has anyone ever heard of or seen a MN 91/30 that's been cut down to M44 size?

Since 91/30's are so cheap, it might make an intriguing project, if someone had the skills to relocate that front sight.....(which I don't BTW - although I'd think a competent gunsmith should be able to)

As for WHY, well, why not?

Well seeing as the sights are different on the M38 and the 91/30, if you wanted to make a 91/30 into a carbine, the M59 would be the better model to follow.

It was done to a 91/30 that had a crappy bore and 16" group. cutting it down gave me a 4" group at 100 yards. A lot of fun to do.

Too bad you don't live around Calgary points, I'd have you do the same to my 91/30!!!!!

i cut my 91/30 barrel down to 23 inches, i used a hose clamp as a guide, then i used angle grinder to get it nice and flat, i used a dremel with the ball type fitting to crown it. I didnt have a tape measure but i would say at 100 yards i was getting 1.5 inches, at 25 yards i got a couple holes to touch. My optics came loose(b square mount) so i had to cut my session short. I have the barrel down to 23 inches, added a mount and 2-7 scout, and a bipod. I dont know how to add pic on here

I bored out a No4 front sight base. Being the band for the 91/30 was too small. Or you can get the barrel turned down. But the No4 front sight band being the bayonet lugs allows it to be bored out and slip over. Mines secured by a set screw.

When did M38's become scarce? Sure, not as common as 91/30s, but even dirt isn't that common.
