hey fellas,

Bought a nice looking mosin from SFRC a week or so ago. I have yet to shoot it but during my initial cleaning and checking things over I noticed the front sight assembly seems to have been moved or re welded?
It shows signs of grinding marks and bluing missing on equal sides on the barrel mounted assembly.

Further inspection resulted in what I seem to believe in a bent front sight pin, From both regular sighting in AND looking down through the front end assembly hole ( birds eye view ) I can clearly see its bent to one direction, Quite a bit.

Is this a common issue with reburbs? Is this some thing that was done accidentally during shipping or by the factory or whats the deal?
Can any one confirm what I see is actually grinding marks on the sides to either replace or move the whole assembly around?

What is the cure for a front sight post replacement or bending it back?

Thanks

If its bent badly, you can bent it back but since the post is small, some heat applied could prevent the post from breaking,in my opinion.

+1 on shoot it first. It might be that some russian soldier 75 years ago "adjusted" (or bashed it with a rock to bend the post over), because the sights were off. Or soemthing ;) stranger things have happened.

Shoote it first, I bought mine from Tradex same story. Front post was bent,

I did not shoot it yet, if it affects shooting it can be bent back

Interesting......Might be smart to remove the post all together, as it will shoot a foot high any way!
Replace with a taller one and file it down wile at the range to zero it for 100 yards.

Cant hurt to shoot it first though.

My 91/30 front post is not removable it is permanently attached. My Mosin's 44 front post can be moved it can slide to sides if knocked with a hammer

Mine was bent too, tried to bend it back very easy and it snapped off. Honestly deep down inside I think it was done on purpose since with the new straight one in it shoots to the right about 4" when the sight is all centered. I now have mojo snap sights so it's a non issue.

However I did fix mine when I broke it, it took lots of hammering to get if off the barrel but once I did I usd the hole in the top to run a bit in and drill it out. Once drilled I broke the shaft off the bit and epoxied it into place where th post used to be.

Only problem with that one it trying to file it to hieght to get the right POI was a pain due to how hard the bit was, looking back I should have used a peice of small round stock. Easier to fit.
