My grandson called me the other day and stated, "Grandpa my PAL is on the way and I would like to buy an Mosin as my first gun", "could you help me find one"? Beat me why and a Mosin of all things but he is a bit of a history buff, so I said OK I'll start on EE & Tradeex.
I'm not familiar with Mosins so I'm a bit out of the water, the only thing grandson mentioned is the hex receiver ones were "better" and a bayo would be nice preferably all matching would be a plus. From what I've read matching bayos are near impossible to find.
After looking around on the net I decided to call a friend who also has a gun dealership if he had anything. His reply was "I just got a case of 20 and it's not even been opened yet". "Any idea if there are any hex receivers?" "I don't know get out here and you can have first pick".
Got in the truck and out I went, by the time I got there he had found 2 hexs and here I must say the difference between the metal finish on the hex and round is like night and day. Mind you they all looked in great shape and my buddy stated it was the nicest batch he'd ever received. They all looked virtually un-issued. I picked a 1933 Izhevsk all matching, dug through the bayos and found one matching. He later informed me all 20 had matching bayos. Hows that for luck, my grandson is a very happy boy and so am I - at least there is hope for my "collection" not just disappearing.
I don't want to shill for my dealer friend but PM me if you want to contact him. I glad to see that some of the younger generation still interested in guns.
Comments / questions would make my day. --- John

On my Mosin I got from Westrifle, a Hex 1932 the only thing not matching was the magazine floor plate, beautiful rifle and a blast to shoot. Your grandson will have fun with his.

Lets say I live near Inwood Ontario. Please don't quote me but about $170 for round and $250 for the hex + tax, with bayo, oil can, wrench etc.
No, no pictures but I suppose I could take a few of the grandson's gun and forward to some one who would be kind enough to post them.
IMHO the hex is worth the extra, I may get one for myself after Xmas should he come by some more. --- John

That's a nice story with a good ending. He'll get a kick out of it.....literally!

All of the 1930s rifles will have been finished better. It's only into the 40s when they got a bit more hasty. ;)

I saw a decent 1927 Tula recently, but the post war stock tipped the balance over to the "I don't need another 91/30" side of the scale ;)

...I probably should go back and buy it..
