The elusive M44 carbine is finally back in stock out here on the west coast! It's been quite awhile since we've seen a proper shipment of these handy 7.62x54mmR rifles in Canada so it's good to finally see these back in our shop. The M44 was a mid-war addition to the Soviet arsenal to provide front-line troops with a handier rifle for the style of battle the Russian forces were facing at the time. It included a side-folding cruciform bayonet, an addition not present on the preceding M38 carbine.

I have a question somebody out there may be able to answer. I own a mosin nagant carbine that is marked 1943r. There is a notch in the stock for a 1944 style folding bayonet, yet there is no bayonet lug/hinge on the front of the barrel.
The serial number on the stock matches the receiver and yet it has no bayonet. So Is it a 1938 carbine or an early 1944 carbine?

Sounds like you have a refurbished M38 with a M44 stock. Quite common, I have one that I got from Tradex.

After you pay for your time machine, it may be out of your budget.
Solid first post though.

Man you are a straight up a**hole eh......

OP the thread is dated about a year ago.
If you look in the upper left corner of the post it will have the time and date it posted so you know how old the original post is etc.

Best place to find them these days is the EE right here on the site.
Expect to pay around $250-$300 for a decent Russian one and as high as $500 for a mint condition Polish type.
Welcome to CGN as well Sir.

I'm straight up sick of people bumping old threads.
It's not rocket surgery.
At least this one was only a year old, not some '3 crates of Norinco 5.56 for $500' thread from 5 years ago.

I also should have added that it's a great rifle!
Have owned a couple over the years and they are a blast to shoot. Very fun, beefy, reliable and handy little rifles that pack a hell of a lot of power in a small stick.

Drat! I got all excited and forgot to check the posting date, could not find a listing on Wanstall's page so I came down here to see if
someone Knew what was up and now I get to be laughed at along with the newbie.
