Hi has anyone had a new barrel installed onto a mosin nagant? Do you need to go all new and notch the barrel or can you use a barrel from a donar rifle ? Chances are in my mind the timing wont be correct. I googled mosin barrels and only found McGowen Barrels. I contacted them and mystec precision reached out I guess they import them from McGowen. Looking at about 600 bucks for the barrel into Canada.

Honestly it is likely easier and cheaper to just buy a new one and sell the old one than it will be to get it rebarreled. Any decent gunsmith should be able to rebarrel it pretty easily though, be it new barrel or donor barrel. It may also require a 7.62x54r chamber reamer though if a thread needs to get turned off it or the chamber ends up being too shallow on your rifle after installation. Which is another part that would likely have to get ordered in unless the gunsmith already has one.

Instead of getting a new barrel, why don't you try and have a barrel sleeve put in your current barrel? I'd think it would be cheaper and easier and there should be no problem using a .308 sleeve since the Finns used .308 barrels on their Mosins.

The barrel has been drilled on the top and had a cut into the bottom at the rear end of the barrel after the threads towards the muzzle and its been filled with steel rods as it was deactivated. Who the heck deactivates a bolt action?!
