Mosin Nagant M91/30 - Scout Scope recommendations

Looking to scout scope my 91/30 - have decided against using one of the kits that replaces the rear sight riser alone - would rather go with the 'naked' dovetail on the barrel itself.

What have you used in this configuration, in terms of scope and rings? looking for a budget solution (its a cheaper rifle) but something that will hold up decently well.
 
I had a B-Square on mine.

Killed a couple bears with it.

In this instance, I want a no-smith but reliable solution that provides the use of optics on a milsurp that I'd rather not butcher. Ideally I want to turn my Mosin into a poor man's all purpose hunting rifle - as well as something with applicability for long range varmint hunting with 123gn SPs.
 
Is it a 3/8" or similar rail? I wonder if either tall airgun rings or a cantilever mount would work? Something like the cheapo mounts from China on ebay?
 
be carefull what you buy

If you buy cheap weak mounts you will regret it. no need for you to learn the lesson the same way I did. A mount that moves even a little like .005 will make your rifle seem to shoot badly and not group. I like your idea of mounting to the dove tail under the rear sight. you could drill and tap that rail for a pic rail. then when you put the rear sight back on the holes would be covered.
 
When I scout scoped my 91/30 the biggest problem I had was finding a scope to fit my needs. There are the usual 50 scopes, and then a hugh price gap up to about 300 I think, without much in between. I opted for a NCStar from frontier for about 90 with shipping. It got nothing but positive reviews (somewhere around 20 or so) on opticsplanet so I took the gamble. I haven't had the rifle out this season yet so I can't comment on my own experiances... But hopefully it lasts. Anyway, be sure to post pics when you're done!

I have heard nothing but great reviews but please post one of your own when you get a chance I would be very interested.

I'm taking the rifle up to the cottage next weekend so I'll snap some pics and let you know how it performs. The rifle is new (to me) so I dont even know what it's capable of yet.
 
Update!!

The NcStar scope with the S&K scout mount works great!

This is my first scout mount set-up and I found it very easy to shoot with. The scope held zero roughly 25 rounds later so I'm sure it's going to last. The illuminated reticle is also a nice feature with some "cool" factor. I'm very happy with this set-up!

I haven't got any pictures of my groupings with the rife as I'm definitely the weakest link in this set-up.

If you're considering this set-up for your own Mosin, consider no longer - go out and buy!
