Mosin Nagant M91

In good to very good condition, start at $800.-

Pics of mine tomorrow.

"This could get expensive... "

Your new to the M91 game aren't you.

Yeah...I've only had a couple or 6 in the last 15 years. 1891, 91/30, 2 M39's and an german marked M44.
I just really don't care to collect them hardcore or worry about 1 fellow's opinion on pricing vs another's...boot's on the ground pricing is different than Virtual I find. Buy online and you get them considerably cheaper... I traded an M39 + 250 $ for my PTG IIRC...years back mind you.

So what I am getting out of this is you don’t like his price estimation so your doing ad hominem attacks? Grow up, its a forum and there is no set price for anything in the used market.

AC Hillbilly: I wouldn't be in a rush to try and refinish it. Finn M91 wood finish is all over the page, depending upon period of manufacture or (very commonly) post war refurb. I suspect it's even probable the Finns sanded old stocks and there are post war rifles that appear to have genuinely had no wood finish applied. The Finn M91's are an interesting story (I have several) but the later WW2/ post WW2 models are not that highly valued. Within the last 5 years I've paid as little as $500 for 20's vintage Finn M91's. Prices have climbed but 40's Tikka and VKT M91's are, in my opinion, still on the lower end of Finn M91 value. The real pricey M1891 would be a Russian or Soviet version (not US- those are fairly common) with lots of originality. Not many of those up here.

It's barely out of January. He is probably a little depressed and isolation bound... just lashing out. Common this time of year they say.
Never done business with the fellow and don't remember an arguement... if someone has a problem...glad it's not me.

What if I refinished (re-Finnish-ed) it with pine tar?

There were multiple finishes used on these, some more correct for certain models than others. Pine tar likely won't give you the right colour by itself. Try looking into Pomo lacquer and Shell Ensis oil, there are modern equivalents that paired with colourants like bitumen can give a very authentic finish.

The promised pics of one of my SA stamped Peter the Great M91 rifles.

Nice rifle... I like my Peter the Great the most out of all the Mosin's I've owned.
I never really liked the M39's strangely. They always felt awkward to handle IMO.

Thanks for the advise on the finish. I know that nothing was done to it since it landed in Canada a long time ago... hard to say when it was sanded down.

1941 Imperial TIKKA M91, Seriously? Why would the Finns bother to spin up a brand new M91 length barrel? What is this CTN DEUTSCH stamp about? Talk amongst yourselves.

Well; it's a 'Peter the Great'.
Definitely an 'In the White' rifle...which is a strangely Apt term, considering the original owners.
I actually like the Patina...kinda like myself...got a few character marks of my own. "Scar's are tattoo's with a Cool story"

Ain't really sure what the circular scar on the toe of the Butt end is from... I do love a Rifle with Panache though.

Might not be worth much to some folks...but if it could tell stories...I'm guessing it would have a few interesting one's. Was out in that -47 C° weather last night. Like 'Really' out in it... and I thought " Can you imagine trying to fight in this Crap?"

Got it out and promptly hollered at Alexia ' Hey Google, play the theme to 'Dr Zhivago'...seemed quite fitting.
Some might Blaggard Old Peter on Condition...they can kick Rocks. I don't 'do' pristine pieces...they are like a Trophy Wife...'Other than looking good...what can I actually do with you?'
Still shaking my head ( and skinny old butt LoL) and thinking, man can you imagine trying to do the usual Insanely Cold weather BS...whilst folks are trying to kill you?
Stay warm and keep on keeping on.

The CTN DEUTSCH stamping on the receiver is a German capture marking. The Finns re-barreled that rifle in '41 and they most always used the hex receiver for their versions of Mosin Nagants.
