mosin nagant or k31?

I've came to the conclusion a while back that if I want an accurate rifle I am going to have to reload for it. You can have the best rifle in the world but with crap ammo it will be a crap shooter.
I have a Polish M-44, it was unissued and as new when I got it. I found the accuracy with a variety of milsurp ammo was mediocre at best in this rifle, But with the right reloads it's a minute of angle flat shooting rifle, I love it.

The fit and finish on the Polish M-44's is wonderfull, as good as anything I have ever seen, and they sell for peanuts. I have recently bought another one.

GP11 prodction stopped about 1995-96 because of large stockpiles and increased demand for GP90(1990) 5.56mm. They can easily restart production once stockpiles lower enough to worry about.

Most of the older GP11 ammo is earmark for the shooting clubs. They are always using the older ammo up first. My club is using 1984, other Canadian Swiss clubs have 1986, and no, we can't sell it outside our own use.

The 1978-79 GP11 ammo on the surplus market was most likey way past the standards they could keep in military service and give to the clubs. I think they found pallets in a storage area everyone forgot about and wondered what they could do with it, hence off to the surplus market.

Ruag can make more for the military when needed. Not likely for the civilian market
I have had some of that 78-79 ammo....loved it! Stuff is still accurate as hell.
We still have distrubitors down here selling it and not too much more than they did two or three years ago. There must have been a mountain of the stuff imported to the US a few years ago.

I know at least three southpaws who compete with the K31 as it is. More left hand friendly than any turn-bolt. If they rest it they only have to use their right hand to operate the bolt. Prone with sling is a bit more complicated but is doable by reaching left hand over and turning over the rifle so bolt handle is close to vertical.

Failing that you can try to get a Burgin left hand operating rod, or the St.Marie version, when it comes out.

Toronto Swiss Rifle Club, which shoots at Camp Borden, or the Thames Valley Club are the closest to you

I always try to discourage anyone to start buying Mosins: they are very common, ugly as sin and have no historical meaning whatsoever.
Eh, what could you expect from a rifle conceived by a russian officer for the russian peasant, uh?
Besides, they are rusty and corroded most of the time.
No, no, my friend, don't waste your hard earned cash on those old tomato posts; buy Swiss instead...

And leave me the Finns... muhuahahaaa!

More like a Swiss watch to a concrete sun dial.

The MN is like a centre fire Cooey. Simple. Everyone should have one.

But the K31 will make your heart beat everytime you fondle it. By one while you can. I make the ammo for it out of my old FClass 6.5-284 brass.
