What exactly is the difference between an original wartime Mosin Nagant PU and one of the newer reproductions?

Besides the new parts and the lack of the owning a cool piece of history are the reproductions any good? Both of them seem to be selling within a similar price point. Is the accuracy better on the reproduction or...?

Thanks!

For one thing, the new reproduction and arsenal reconditioned scopes come with Buna N seals. The originals used cork.

I have one of the new reproductions, one of the arsenal reconditioned scopes and an original scope. I don't shoot the original. The reason, the cork seals are loose and crumbling. Yes, I know, seal kits are available. I'll just leave that project to my heirs.

I haven't noticed a lot of difference between any of the new reproductions and the arsenal reconditioned scopes.

desportierizer is likely much more experienced and knowledgeable than I am about these scopes and will happily bow out to his knowledge.

It would be very nice if he had gone into some more helpful and specific detail though.

How can you tell if a rifle is a repro or arsenal refurbed? I was looking at a PU sniper in a shop and if I were to buy one now or in the future how would I tell? I'd rather have a refurb, not a repro.

I think the op was referring to the reproduction rifles as opposed to just the scopes. There is no real difference between most of the European repro scopes & the the originals. The repro rifles are much harder to judge quality because there was no real effort to select better rifles for the conversions so a scope could have been mounted on a real dog. Why buy repro when original is available?
