Hello,

I have a Mosin Nagant and I'd like to use the old style PU scope with it. I understand that this scope mount must be drilled and tapped to the rifle. I have called around to a few gun smiths in my area.. and I am getting alot of mixed answers. One guy says its most likely impossible to drill the receiver on an old rifle as the metal is too hard. Another guy says no problem for $200+... and the next guy says I will try for $60-$100. I was just wondering if anyone had actual experience with this issue, how much it cost from a gun smith and how well the rifle preformed after the fact. Also if its worth the money to get an old original scope or just the more current replicas? Thanks for your time.

Holy crap. don't go with the guy that says the metal would be too hard. Call westrifle and get a nice repro from Sergey. Drill and tap generally goes 20 bucks a hole. you can do a good job with a cheap drill press and some clamps.

Just buy one that was done already from us. My gunsmith done 100th of those already. There is so many small things that you have to know when installing it.

i had my local gunsmith make me up a pu and then a pe topmount sniper clone.

he charged about 125$ each i provided some info and the scope and mounts .
its do able nothing about hard recievers or such.

as to the do it with own drill / at home .............mmm best to leave that to the smith. IF YOU WANT IT DONE RIGHT then get it done proper.
if you can find a proper made / set up pu then get it but many are not well done = need shimms or wont site in correct.
thats my 10 cents .

I could not say it better. Gunsmith is the way to go. Good gunsmith is priceless.
