Anyone know where to get them reasonably priced? eBay seems to be really expensive nowadays..they are all in Russia and the Ukraine and shipping is expensive too.

Don't suppose anyone knows where to get proper carbine slings too? The M44 and M38 take shorter slings than the M91/30. I've only ever owned one proper carbine sling and it's Polish.

What model rifle?

What history?

Original?

Modded?

Finn rework?

I thought a Moisin-Nagant was a Moisin-Nagant until I asked this same question a month ago and got flamed royally for my ignorance.

Buffdog was kind enough to point me to a MN website which made things much clearer. They are ALL odd, it seems, but my old-timers are a bit odder than some others.

Good luck in your quest.
.

BTW, I do believe that Trade-Ex has some 91/30 slings at this time, also ammo pouches. Ten bucks.

What model rifle?

Mosin nagant 91/30, M44, M38 as stated.

What history?

Human history

Original?

I don't really mind when it comes to slings. As long as it's Russian I don't care if it's a post war. I don't believe there are reproductions.

Modified?

Finn rework?

Finn leather slings are reasonably priced but not correct for my Russian rifles.

Thanks for the info. I will try to get some slings without the ammo pouches or cleaning kits as they are taking over my cabinets!

I just wish I could find carbine slings as the 91/30 slings don't tighten up to parade specs. lol.

I wish you luck with the shorties, friend.

Do you think it practical to shorten the 91/30 sling for the 38 and 44 shorties? If this is practical, it might be nice if you would get back to this thread after you have done it. There must be a lot of people looking for these.

I know what you mean about ammo pouches. I have ONE SKS and close to a hundred pouches for it! Recently, I have iscovered a costume designer who REALLY wants some of them, so one more problem being sorted out.

BTW, what does it say in your sig line? Looks to be stirring, whatever it means. Latvian, no? I was going to put something nasty about Sassenachs in my sig line except that nobody in my family can read Gaelic any longer! Besides, I'm half a Sassenach myself, but don't tell anyone!

LOL!

Stating the obvious here but have you tried shortening the sling ? I don't think they made two types of slings, just one for the Mosins, one for the SKS (and AK47?) and one for the PPSh and SVT-40. Someone correct me if I wrong on this.

Those Soviet post war slings are quite handy to have! Probably one of the most comfortable military slings I have on my rifles and I have no fear of it coming apart in the field :D.

smellie, I'm only going by the slings that came on my M38,91/30 and 44, that came out of Tradex. Their slings are all the same length. I will admit, that may not be the way they were issued but those were in the package that came with them. Honestly, I've never put them on the rifles.

I have, been planning on picking up half a dozen, to use on sporters. The one, not slated for a rifle, is probably the most comfortable sling I own. As mentioned above.

It may be, but it would be hard to re-sew the sling once cut and shortened. They must have had leather sewing machines to do this. I would probably have to drill each thread hole with a power drill first and find some real thick thread! I've shortened tons of Kar 98 slings for use on Mauser carbines but that's an easy job compared to this.

Nice! I've found...creative uses for Mosin ammo pouches.

Roughly: Hawks of the Daugava unite! Those of us who are still alive.

It is Latvian. It was a line from the song of the Daugavas Hawks organization, an aid organization formed by former members of the SS Legion after the war.

I wonder what happened to all the carbine slings...recycled? You would think most post war slings would be carbine length but that's not the case.

Skirsons, go talk to DILLIGAF right away!

My junkers are a 1906 Tula, 1907 Sestroryetsk and a Dragoon rifle, all Finns. I have to keep them separated from my Soviet rifles or else there will be a fight right on my rack!

Anyone have a source for those Finnish leather slings?

Thank you, gentlemen.
