We have mosin nagant rifles being sold on cgn for $175.00. Ask for the same rifle with the sniper scope on it and the price goes up five times. Were there so few mosin's made for the sniper that there is such a difference in price?

Is it possible to put a russian scope on a mosin to make it a sniper rifle without having it look bubbafied?

I'm tighter than bark on a birch tree and cant afford to pay big dollars for a real one... any ideas?
 
Some of the 91/30s from the sponsors are less than 175. The ones you see for under 1500 have replica parts and are most likely not genuine issue snipers.


The difference is a bent bolt, side mounted plate for scope, and the scope itself. Between a good machinist, welder, and some care with the modifications to the stock might save you a few bucks, but its questionable. On the other hand, I've seen one or two of them that look like someone built them in their garage, that were supposedly imported as "sniper". I've also seen some that were in my opinion very well done, even though they had replica parts.
 
The few guys on here that have installed them say the mosin side rail is tricky to install, and I believe most snipers for sale are made out of ex-sniper rifles. Not to mention the cost of the optics and labour for a gunsmith to install, the price goes up pretty quick. Plus hey, its a sniper rifle!

Here,s my repro sniper, i bought it last fall. I consider that one really well asembled,bore is very good+ and i cant wait for the snow to melt so i can shoot it. The scope and mount, ukrainian made repro, is the closest original looking scope you can have. Those scope sell around $350. So let's say you get a $175 rifle+ a repro scope and mount you are at $525 and add the bent bolt+ gunsmith for instalation of the mount+stock mod you will it $700 or more, particulary if you put a original ww2 scope($425+). Even if you do all the work yourself,the parts still cost alot if you want a nice repro sniper. So all things considered, if you can buy a repro,ready to go for $650-$700 and if you can have one well assembled, its worth the price. Ofc, some repro are nicer than others. Pick up an ex-sniper and add the original scope on, you will hit $900-$1000 or $1200+ for an authentic matching sniper and then you can say that you have a real Mosin sniper. making a repro or re-sniper an ex-sniper, nothing is cheap cheap. I "re-sniperize" a SVT 40 ex-sniper now, $400 for the proper rifle but $675 of parts but after all, its a hobby,a passion:)

I'm in the process of scoping a 91/30 right now.

The most cost effective way to get the rifle scoped to put an S&K scout scope mount on, and an NcStar 2-7x32mm pistol scope. All in all the rifle with the scope, mount, and shipping should come in at just under $300.

It's definitely not original by any means, but it's effective.

The NcStar scope has amazing reviews as well. Check opticsplanet.

hmmm...

I think if I get a mosin I will stick with the iron sites. Doesn't sound like there is an easy way to sniperize it without wrecking it.

Thanks for the information. No trolls jumped from under the bridge to rip a strip off me.. thats a good thing.
