I can hit the 300 yard gongs with sickening regularity with my svt40. I cant say the same about my mosin. That gun makes shotgun patterns beyond 100. BUT that is just my guns. I have just been on a really really bad semiauto kick.
 
I think the Mosin's more "forgiving" when it comes to the ammunition it's fed (esp. if we're discussing corrosive ammunition), but the SVT's definitely got its own charm.
 
Now that I have my SVT-40, a weapon i never thought I'd be able to own; I am not sure why I'd need a Nagant. My SVT fires the same ammo and I basically collect by calibre.

Cause the svt is 20 times more likely to break & there is no reliable source of parts. You can make mosin parts from scrap, machine it with a file & the damned thing will still work.
