Big thanks to artyman for helping me sight in the mosin pu! No shim or file was needed and it shoots pretty darn well! I'm still feeling it out but at 100 yards I had a nice fist sized group with a splatter of flyers.

Not only did artyman help me sight in the mosin, but he let me use his spotting scope to boot.

Also, another shout out to artymans friend (can't recall his cgn handle) for sorting my M1 garand assembly out.

If I ever get my camera working of course I'll post pics!

Great day at Orono!

No shim or file? Were the crosshairs still centred in the scope tube, or over to one side?

Ideally, you want to be right in the middle of the range of adjustment with the rifle sighted right on for windage.

The original style scopes have the crosshairs move in the field of view as you adjust the turrets. The newer "Accumounts" style has the reticle stay centred and the view moves.

That thing was almost bang-on right out of the box! Took a lot less time to sight in than ArtyMan or I are used to seeing.

An excellent day at the range, with some beautiful milsurps. Thanks again for the En-Bloc.

Must have got lucky. It isn't a real Mosin sniper rifle by any chance is it?

Every one I've seen or heard tell of needed to be shimmed or filed.

From what I saw, I don't think it's an ex-sniper. The mount and scope were definitely repro. Should be able to tell for sure when he throws up the pictures.

Yup! I bought it at westrifle. To answer some questions:

1.) I don't think it's an actual ex-sniper. As stated, the mount is 100% repro. It came new in box. Rubber lens caps. Brand new.
(That being said it's quality optics. Nice clear picture.)

2.) Not sure what to tell ya. From what I hear they need to be shimmed / filed for the most part - but I guess I got lucky in the scope department. A very brief bore sighting was done, and the elevation screws were adjusted accordingly. With a little luck it really took no time at all for elevation. We were on paper the first shot after bore sight. And not too far off target.
A small adjustment to windage was made. The sight picture still looks like it's pretty much centered (even though I know I moved it very slightly to the right).

3.)I'm happy with it. I think it just might have become my fave rifle.

The ONLY complaint I have is the stock actually broke on the first shot I took. I will post pictures but it was a small wooden "sliver" chunk directly behind the mount. Broke right off (bout 2 inches long, one centimeter in width).
I crazy glued it back on (along with a bunch of paper towel on my fingers :p)

At first I was bummed - but then I realized it's a 70+ year old rifle that's whacking fist sized targets at 100 yards my very first time even shooting a 91/30 with a great set of optics. I wouldn't return it even if it was offered. I'll fix the stock - and replace it if I ever needed to.

The old girl shoots good and I'm gonna keep her around. ;)

Pics coming.

Sounds like the stock was touching the rear of your scope mount and broke from the reward force of recoil. Make sure you releave the wood around there before you fire again.
