Hey, Guys. I just bought this. Can someone tell me what I bought? I thought it would look pretty, beside my Enfields and the 1943 Izhevsk I have. And I've wanted a Pre-Soviet Imperial Russian Rifle for ... some time now.

I can't read Cyrllic, but I assume the [SA] is a Finnish Capture Mark? And, I'm pretty sure she was built in 1896. She's in pretty good shape, bore's a little dark, but rifling looks strong. She IS 111 years old, so I wasn't expecting 'perfection'.

Sorry, about the picture quality. I'm still learnding to use the Digital Camera.

Yep, it's an 'Imperial Tula' with a Finnish Army (SA= Suomen Armeija) marking. That's pretty much all I can tell.

I can't tell what the mark on top of the reciever is in the second pic.... Wait for Claven... :p

LOL... Sorry guys! I can't see the photo on this computer (some photo hosting sites are blocked by my server). Otherwise I'd be happy to comment ;)

SA is the Finnish Army property stamp, applied sometime after 1942. If it is indeed a Tula (remember I can't see the photo!) It should say (phonetically) "Imperatorskiye Toolah Orugenia zhavod" or "Imperial rifle factory at Tula" with an 1896 date. the barrelled action will be original, while the remainder of the parts are usually a mix of parts from the last rebuild the Finnish government subjected the rifle to. They go for about $200 or so on today's Canadian market unless it's a really exceptional example or a rare maker like Chatellerault or Sestroryetsk.

Hope that helps!

In a word, the blueing is great, considering her age. She does need a thorough cleaning. I'll take care of that, when I return from my planned Epic Ski Trip (I leave in 45 minutes). Hopefully, the bore comes out a little shiny-er.

Finns never throw anything away, notice the Finn two-piece stock still has the original russian buttstock, but forestock is a new piece of Finnish Artic Pine wood.
