Hey guys,

Today I was cleaning my Mosin, and after a while I noticed the cleaning patches were coming out blue. Any ideas as to why? Im using standard Hoppes #9 and a soviet 91/30, and was firing czech slivertip.
The barell looks fine (very clean!) im just wondering as to why, it's never done this before.

Thanks

That would indicate you are removing copper fouling. Maybe you never had copper fouling before, something different about the bullets (copper wash), other??

I believe you have one of the few Mosins with the ultra rare copper plated barrel. Similar to chrome plating the barrel for protection against fouling and corrosion, the Russians experimenting with plating the inside of their barrels with copper. Only 10 were ever produced and you just destroyed one of them. Way to go.

Just make sure you go and clean again in a day or two. The czech ammo is really corrosive.
Leave the bore wet overnight and you will have more blue copper come out.
