Guess?
Hey guys.

I haven't been on the board much recently, and I was wondering what people think of the influx of the MN 91/30 PU reproduction snipers? Are they worth the $700-$800 the sellers are asking?

Thanks

They look and shoot quite well. Personally, I think if you're looking for a shooter, they represent a good buy.

By the time you buy the individual parts to build one and even if you do the work yourself, it will cost at least as much to build and it may not look as good.

The optics in the new repro scopes are great when compared to the originals as well.

Buy one, you won't be disappointed.

By the way, if you get one, buy a set of loading dies and brass as well. They don't really perform as well as they might with surplus ball.

I purchased one from tradex and am very happy with it. Scope is crystal clear and mount Is rock solid stamped matching barrel. Bore has strong rifling and shoots legit 2.5 inch at 100 with czech silver as delivered. Groups open up to 6 plus inch with factory s&b 180gr - anyone have an idea why that might be? Open sights shoot 10" high. I guess standard fair for the mosins. I have since floated the barrel since it was touching a bit down the channel. See if that tightens things up a bit. Might try some reloads this weekend too.
Stock has a few minor dings and the metal is in great shape. Came with bayonet that fits - wow it is long when installed. Initially I thought the barrel and receiver were mismatched but upon further inspection it is matching. Very happy with overall quality. Would buy again

You could try and findan original and pay threw your nose, as i always say, whats the difference between a 100 dollar date and a 1000 dollar date, answer, your broker.

I think Jean at P&S has some ex-snipers that have been factory refurbed to infantry spec that would make a good base for a repo sniper.

I priced it all out...the repros are either cheaper or close to the same. The ex snipers have the problem of the hard welds making it hard to install the mount.

The scopes aren't cheap or easy to come by.

Prices seem to fluctuate depending on if Enemy at the Gates is being show on Showtime or the History channel around the same time. :D

My only concern is, are those repro snipers being sold currently all built on true, high wall (so legitimate former sniper) Nagants ?

My gun store told me they were snipered rifles, but repro scopes. I don't know my sniper nagants very well but they seemed legit. Any honest gun store will tell you they are not real sniper rifles.

it seems I have a low wall m91/30...........crap. just wouldn't be right to repro sniper that gun.

- My gun store told me they were snipered rifles,

No they are not real Snipers, just regular Infantry rifle that have had the bolt modified to sniper configuration. However on this batch they did make the effort to use High Wall receivers, unlike many of the previous repros. Maybe on the next batch the Ukrainians exporters will try to fake the sniper markings !

- but repro scopes

Yes scopes and bases are repros.

These are not bad, unlike the people trying to sell the SVT-40's saying they are sniper rifles just because the reciever is grooved. The M19/30 is worth the money for a shooter.

Bang on as to what I have seen, and thanks. Not always easy to tell real from fakes, but it can still be done.
