hi all,
Are mosins all dried up? can't seem to find them anywhere, i just want a regular version not the 800 bucks sniper ones, is any store still selling them for around 200?:bangHead:

the odd time you may run across them in store on EE and Gun Shows, they cost about $250 to $350 now sometimes more if really nice looking/condition and or matching numbers/bayonet and or hex head vs round head nonsense.

There pretty good old guns. I most enjoy the sniper though. and the M44 and M38 carbine versions...…. I still get a kick out of how cheap they are still I mean people whine like children but to me military surplus are amazing values. Go look at new rifles. but at @400ish many entry level rifles are pieces of junk compared to the quality of materials and workmanship put into a Mosin Nagant rifle... now look at how many milsurps can be bought for less than $1000. To be made today many milsurp firearms would cost at least 100-300% more to be anywhere near as good. I still say there are a good investment.

Hands of my retirement and daughters college fund Trudeau !

The days of the $150-200 mosin at firsthand retailers seems to have come to a close. Generally you will still find them around at most annual gun shows and also on the EE from time to time, there are often still some good deals to be had.

I look at the price of Mosins and I wonder if I should have held onto mine... My dad took me into W.W. Arcade hardware in Edmonton in about 1978. We picked up a Mosin complete with bayonet, a few clips, ammo holders, tool kit and sling for about $65. It was fun to shoot, belched a two foot flame which was neat to see at dusk. Sold it to a friend many many years ago. Lugging it around all these years maybe would not have been worth it lol. And WW Arcade is a fancy restaurant now.

Pretty much since the russian sanctions and the russia/ukraine thing started a few years ago most surplus has stopped. Ukraine decided it may need the stockpiled surplus it had, and russia has so many sanctions very little is coming our way.

If/when the tensions/sanctions get resolved and thing settle down you'll probably see them coming back again, but until then it's hurry up and wait, or buy what is already here.

All I've owned /over 20 handpicked to sell shot better than 2" at 100 yards with irons and PRC ball.Several under an inch.

Ukraine resumed selling surplus about year or two ago (can't recall when exactly, let's say year ago I have heard new prices for sure). They want more for what they still have left and it makes no sense for importers to get something that is that expensive with already market near full with cheap mosin nagants from previous imports. Russia had not been exporting regular mosin nagants, only sniper ones. It is illegal to export military firearm from Russia. That's why most of Soviet surplus came from Ukraine, some from Belorus and from other sources. There was a Russian company with greasy hands that had been labeling sniper mosin nagants, TT-33 and SKSs as "sporting firearm" as thus exported it, but they are not in business anymore AFAIK. You have to understand that it was indeed illegal, but with greasy hands, some $$$ and BS paperwork it worked in Russia. So let's call it "workaround" that seems doesn't work anymore.

As for sanctions - they prohibit to deal with specific companies and persons, there's no prohibition to import firearm from Russia. But as I said above - main reason for the lack of surplus from Russian is their laws and lack of surplus from Ukraine is higher prices (and some guns like SVT are probably just gone).

Bottom line - embrace, the drought is coming. Second hand marked will rule. We got ourselves pretty big chunk of surplus and while prices will go up it still will be possible to find yourself nice example of refurbished gun. If you're buying now look for Ukrainian imports (no export marking at all, original refurbished condition), in a long run it will be more collectible than Russian imports with laser-etched billboard export markings.

If youre looking in the 150-300 range, Canadian Tire always seems to have a few. I noticed the odd k98 in there too, obviously not for 200 bucks tho lol

I just bought a K98 at can tire, my local one had 8, the same one that just sold their Mosin. They were 800 though.

The Canadian tire near me is the only one in Calgary I have been able to locate them. I have heard rumours of the one in Medicine Hat alberta also having them. They have 7 Kar98k and had a Mosin. They don’t know what they have though I don’t think, they told me the Kar98k won’t sell at 800$ since they are clunkers. Mine cleaned up nice, haven’t shot it yet but it is in beautiful condition.

really? i never seen any milsurp at the crappy trash in oshawa, or when i moved up just south of orillia. point me to your honey holes!

The Crappy Tire in Bowmanville had SKS & Mosins last time I was in there. Not all crappy tires have gun rooms.

That must have over a year ago. Canadian Tire management mandated the removal of ALL SKS rifles from their stores last year.

TURF THE LIBERALS IN 2019

Liberals really like POOR people, they're making more of them every day

If you can't vote CPC, stay at home in protest

Not all Canadian Tire franchise owners give a flying fig what the corporate office has to say. CT franchise owners have a lot of leeway in terms of what products they carry, and are quite happy to tell the Toronto head office to get stuffed. Also, the gun counters in a lot of CT stores are effectively a sub-lease arrangement, with very little relationship with the larger corporation.

Right now (Med Hat), there is maybe about 4x K98s @599.99 each. 1 X M48 Mauser pretty rough looking for about $420.00. I haven't seen a Mosin there is a while. It was a year ago maybe? It was a repro sniper as far as I remember...
