Well I'v been thinking of picking up a mosquito for awhile. I was wondering if you guys can give me some input. Is it picky about ammunition? Difficult to disassemble? I had a p22 and it would eat any type of ammo in fed it but was a bit of a hassle to clean. But if the mosquito is a picky eater I would go with another p22.
 
I had a few feeding issues with mine, until I polisched the feed ramp, it runs very good with winchester wildcats. I have the sport model, but the barrel was cut to 107mm, so no more need for the goofy thing up front, dissassembly is super easy.
 
I had one that was as reliable as any rimfire can be using Blazer.

In the end it was small, felt cheap, and was not very accurate as the barrel would constantly come loose.

Super easy to clean however.

I would still recommend a Ruger though. :)
 
Believe it or not,
the only thing my Mosquito would cycle reliably, were Remington Thunderbolts
After about going through several hundred rounds, it wasn't so picky, anymore.
It's small size and light weight, make it one of my least used .22s.
 
save 200 bucks more and get the p226 22lr. the mosquito is not made by sig sauer but under German Sports Gun. It is a bit smaller than a p226. Get the p226 22lr and when you ready you can buy the conversion kits for other calibres. Better buy in the long run and it will hold its resale value better if you decide to let it go.
 
Don't buy it! It's a crap shoot if it would work with any ammo and its accuracy is poor. The worst pistol that has gone through my hands and they have been many. Buy a P226 in .22 and you can also turn it into a 9mm or .40 S&W with a slide-barrel assembly.

Yah with the P226 .22, for a extra few bucks you can change it up with an X-Change Kit to 9mm or .40 cal (thats only if you planned to buy a sig 9mm to begin with). You essentially have 3 guns at your finger tips for what.. like 1.3k +/-?

Keep in mind the .22 doesn't lock back with last round. There are followers you can pick up to change that, and change the plastic guide rod to a stainless steel one, as well as change the mag springs.

A lot of reviews I read said the p226 needs some high quality mags to start for the first few hundred rounds. Apparently no real issues runnning CCI - Mini Mags. Then feeding bulk become easier.

I am aching to get mine and go to the range right now. (Just been reading up on it like a fiend to fill the void)
 
My dad and I have one, it's not the greatest. If I were to do it over again, I'd get the sig exchange kit, or a ruger. It seems to really only like the CCI mini mags and they are a bit pricey for .22. Our sig doesn't get used a lot, we can reload .40 and .45 for less than the mini mags cost.

I've bought "stuff" because of their "looks" and it usually never turns out well.
If you want a smaller frame don't consider a Ruger 22/45 4.5" Slabside bbl because they are boringly accurate and not picky on ammo;)
Field strip it a few times and it will no longer be a PITA. Can't go wrong for ~$300
 
Very picky on ammo, and I've yet to hear if they ever fixed the problem with the cheap pot metal slides that were breaking from the awesome recoil of the mighty .22LR.
 
i like mine, it needed to run cci mini mags for the first 700 rounds, after that it wasnt so picky, seems to me it tells you that at the front of the little book called "owners manual" lol!
i think it is a good trainer cause i really have to concentrate on my trigger squeeze, if i do... its more accurate than me!
has a rail for a laser too!
on the flip side i just bought a browning 1911-22, about the same price, it just feels right in my hand, havent shot any targets yet, just plinking, but its my fav.
if it fits your hand well and you like it ...buy it!
 
I have one that shoots great if using blaser round nosed boxed ammo. Also works good with federal boxed ammo but it doesn't like the 333 winchester or 555 packs due to the large hollow point cavity. Crap assed thunderbolt ammo worked good with it's truncated cone nose design. All this seems to point to feed ramp polishing in my opinion.
Gun is quite accurate once I figured out that the front sight needed to be swapped to the taller one. Short one would move around between shots!
I start a range session with the mosquito, leading up to using my 9mm's. Helps me get my act together!
I have gone through 3 boxes of blasers with only one FTF due to a bad round!
I like mine, but sure like the trigger that Ruger or Browning build into their guns, that is the weak spot of the mosquito in my opinion.
 
Been there, done that, get the ruger or a buckmark.... Like every other mosquito, they are annoying. I've never had anything that was so fussy about ammo, 3-5 failures every mag , sent it back and the dealer said"it worked fine here, try "brand X ammo", so I did and guess what, FTFTFTFTFTFTFTFTFTF........... And then they wouldn't take it back. SO, goodbye! I got a buckmark and so far after about 1200 rds, no failures. JMO.
 
Had one,

it malfunctioned even with CCI Minimags, regardless of the spring used. Worst firearm purchase I even made.

Compare with a Ruger, which just keeps firing.
