Mosquito stuff.

Great, i'll give it a try then. At the range, with the berms and the roofed areas, there is barely any wind in the 50 meters areas so this should work well then.

The Thremacell is the best device ever invented for people who spend time outdoors! We keep on in each vehicle, my hunting vest and a lantern style on the picnic table. It's not like it "helps", it completely keeps mosquitoes away.
Last year I figured out an easy and safe way to refill the butane cartridges, now I see there are many tutorials on YouTube.

Has anyone else tried it on black flies? This would be it's main purpose in my case.

I'm guessing this isn't effective in the wind?

Unless theyve changed the formula of the stuff, then no, it doesnt work on blackflies. Truth be told we havent purchased a new cartridge in a few years and when we last did, it did not work on blackflies.

It does work remarkably well on Mosquitos though.

How much $$$$$$$

Dave.

$12-$40.

Depends on what you want.

tain't but one way to repel skeeters; DEET, and not the pussy stuff they sell nowdays- you need the 95% stuff like what we had in nam- the stuff that eats plastic for breakfast- makes men out of children, and repels most folks for months on end

I was lucky. I was the CQ for my unit when they banned the good stuff. I heard rumours about it so I ordered 100 bottles. I was told shortly afterward not to issue it and to only use it during NBC training to simulate nerve agents which turn your detector papers to the "bad" colours. I just took it home. That was 10yrs ago. I still have 8 bottles of "Jungle Power" insect repellent. I use it sparingly. I am quite afraid I will run out. Most of my situations can be handled with the deep woods off and muskol. However, fishing in the bush still requires some of the "REAL" insect repellent.

The PMRA (pest management regulatory agency) is the Canadian agancy that regulates pest control products. I have searched their website and do not see any info on this product. It has to be registered with them to be on sale so I guess I will keep looking. Perhaps it is not sold as a personal insect repellant since it is not applied to skin?

DEET is the only chemical the PMRA recommends for use on people. And contrary to some beliefs, less concentrated products repell just as well, it just needs to be reapplied again later in the day. And the high concentration stuff is not sold in Canada anymore anyway.

yea, keep telling yourself that- that's WHY you have to re-apply every 4 hours instead of once in the morning- it makes sense too, if you figure in the 28% concentrations- a LOT of research went into deet and it's prodigy, and canada isn't viet nam- in terms of bugs; we got it easy- lucky i still have a few bottles of the good stuff left over, and i use it miserly- btw, the cf also issued the same stuff back in the 70's , so you might find some surplus; the reason supposedly the good stuff was taken off the market was that some soccer mom was putting it on her kid and the kid suffered damage of some sort; you have to wonder about a mother putting that stuff on a kid anyway;that's what the milder things like off etc are for; maybe she CAN'T READ- anyway, i should imagine you can still get the good stuff online or stateside; the worst they can do is confiscate

I got some 98% stuff in Cuba a few years ago that works amazingly well. They got some killer mosquitos there and the 98% Deet is a must. Had no probs bringing it home- of course we didn't divulge unless asked either...:)

It works!!!! I have several of them works on all bugs it seems too skeeters blackflies and deer and horse flies too. I have proved it over and over to people. Takes about ten minutes or so and the bugs don't bother you and more. It has very little odour and your not covering yourself in bug spray!!!! I use it bear and turkey hunting doesn't seem to bother them and the bugs don't bother me...

This is the feedback I am getting too. We have been very happy to represent this product. Lanterns, holster etc. should be arriving soon.

Cheers!

I've got a stash of 3 or 4 bottles of that stuff :)

I just bought one of those thermacell units. I am leaving tomorrow to go up north Bear hunting. I will see what they are like, but am bringing up a bottle of my "stash" just in case the thermacell doesn't live up to the hype. If the Thermacell works and is odorless that will be a bonus.

They also make pads that contain attractants and cover scents for the Thermacell. Pine, earth, estrus.. Never tried any of them, not too keen on the smell of burning deer pee.

Not for whoosies:p

I use Watkins stuff exclusively. They make it in spray now as well. Any of the other stuff stinks to high heaven and attracts mosquitoes.:p

2 years ago I was hunting in an area I new fairly well- but not well enough, it seems, as I stumbled on an old shack I had never seen before. Out of curiosity I went in to check it out and it had the usual stuff you find in old cabins that have been abandoned to the pack rats- Old dirty foamy, rusty pots, some rusty tin cans, etc. Everything was falling apart, rubbish strewn around. I doubt anyone had been here in a dozen years. I went to leave and booted some crap and an old small cardboard box fell apart and out popped 2 bottles of 95% DEET Muskol! I was super excited and pocketed them. I now have those 2 bottles plus half another bottle I have been hoarding.:p

does nobody use the head mesh nets anymore? I bought a few new ones this week. I like Deet but I always get it on my sunglasses and have killed a few pairs by accident with it.

I miss that stuff. I don't think they sell it anymore.

Years ago, when working in a pharmacy, the word came down from the head office of the chain, pull all of the 95% Deet off the shelves and get rid of it. The front shop manager complied, had it sitting in the back, I asked him, what will happen to it? Garbage, do you want it? I took it all.w:h:
