Hey guys,

I'm looking for a longer range bolt action. Has any one taken a look at the Night Tain 2?

i'd like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks.

Really? I heard they shoot 1/4 MOA minimum? :bsFlag::HR:

I was wondering when the next Mossberg "precision" thread would be created. It is usually a once-a-month occurence.

Like others have said, use the search function.

Please OP, do not buy that rifle. It is all for looks, not for accuracy. Maybe try to research savage 10? Rem 700? Weatherby vanguard? Stevens 200? PGW Timberwolf? ;)

I love how this topic keeps resurfacing. It allows me to share my love of the best beverage ever!

The Night Train, favored by unnamed tactical units and bums everywhere.

do not have first hand knowledge of this weapon system
however i can tell you that the gun snobs will jump all over this
i too am keeping my eyes open for a longer range shooter
and on paper this rifle looks great comes equiped and is priced reasonably
however you can be sure that many will say because its under 1000.00
must be crap
The precision snobs will maintain that unless you can afford 3000.00
plus it will be crap and you can not join their elite club
Myself i would love some first hand accounts

Thats funny... considering how many other dudes suggested an SPS Varmint or Savages. Under $1000. Pull your head out of your ass.

-OP- I haven't had first hand experience with this rifle, but I personally live by this rule: You buy good, you buy once. If you do get the Mossy, I hope you get out of it what you want, hopefully more. Good luck on your search and have fun.

This is not about being a precision snob. Precision is just that, precision, and the less you spend the less precision you're going to get, for the most part. The Mossberg is a cheaply made attempt at duping the unknowing buyer into thinking they are getting a precision rifle, they aren't. Do yourself a favour and search the internet for feedback on this gun,

If you are on a budget, you're far better off starting from a platform that you'll be able to build off of, like the Remington or the Savage. As your skill/budget increases you will be unable to upgrade the Mossberg parts and you will end up replacing it. Might as well start out where you're going to end up,

Patrick

Who knows ... Maybe Mossberg actually built something amazing and their just waiting for a few people to buy their rifle to realize how amazing it is and their market share of the tactical rifle market will jump to 99%, just like Savage did.

All I know about Mossbergs is that my friend cared so little about his Mossberg shotgun that he cleaned it with WD40 and sandpaper.

OP - in all seriousness, use the Internet to your advantage and research. Many people have had great success with Remington's and Savage ... and Tikkas. I have yet to read about anyone raving about the Mossberg.

Scope- junk
Muzzle break- junk
Bolt-poorly made
Stock-flimsy
Bi-pod-decent (if they still give you a harris, which of late, I've heard they don't..)

Although I've never owned on (never will either) I do have experience with trying to sight one in.

on paper, it might look alright - you mean the pictures look cool.

has Mossberg fixed the spontaneous bolt disassembly causing facial re-arrangement? if not, chances are theres not going to be many to give first hand experiences...

On paper, it has a cheap bipod (the old ad had the bipod on backwards btw - shows how much time mossberg put into this)

the overly large scope is a hunk of Chinese sh*t.
why does anyone need a 60mm objective? it's pure marketing bs. chances are it's to compensate for the sh*tty glass, even then, not very well.
^ it's like getting your #### chopped off to replace it with your pointer finger, because although it's narrower, you gain a few cm in length.

you can do "shooting tight groups with a rifle" on a budget.
this isn't the way.

This is:
get yourself a stevens 200 - $300
bed the stock - ~$50
get a bushnell 10x40, rings and bases - ~$300

call jerry at mystic precision or member juanvaldez @ northshore
then have jerry do up a .308 barrel for you for savage rifle ~ $400
and a timney trigger. ~ $100

This will shoot better than ANYTHING you can buy pre-built from mossberg.

There was a thread about the stevens 200 being a low cost precision rifle. I have experience with both. The Stevens is better and costs less than half of what the Mossy costs. Do yourself a favour and stay away from combo rifles.

In it's basic form, the Stevens isn't a precision rifle. Not even slightly. It's a hunting rifle. At least the Mossberg mentioned by the OP is a varmint rifle by design.

To the OP, why don't you buck the trend here, buy one, and do a through review for the benefit of the community here? Maybe we're all wrong? FWIW, don't take any of the comments here personally. You asked for opions and you got exactly what you asked for.

There's one gun you should stay away from, and it's the mossberg night train. Stevens and savage has better rifles around the same price with much better aftermarket support. The bold design on the mossberg is dangerous.
