Moss Night Train II

I do not have first hand knowledge of this weapon system
however i can tell you that the gun snobs will jump all over this
i too am keeping my eyes open for a longer range shooter
and on paper this rifle looks great comes equiped and is priced reasonably
however you can be sure that many will say because its under 1000.00
must be crap
The precision snobs will maintain that unless you can afford 3000.00
plus it will be crap and you can not join their elite club
Myself i would love some first hand accounts

if one does not have knowledge of a 'weapons sytem" (it's not a weapon until you use it as such, it's a rifle) then why the are you making suggestions about it? stop spreading bs about something you don't understand. this website is 80 % bullschitt at the best of times. well, i guess you admitted you know nothing so you're better than most. newer mossberg bolt actions guns are the hyundai pony of rifles. you get what you pay for

haha, once again, thanks to all who gave thier 2 cents. I did not expect so much so quick. glad to see people eager to pitch in...

This is not about being a precision snob. Precision is just that, precision, and the less you spend the less precision you're going to get, for the most part. The Mossberg is a cheaply made attempt at duping the unknowing buyer into thinking they are getting a precision rifle, they aren't. Do yourself a favour and search the internet for feedback on this gun,

If you are on a budget, you're far better off starting from a platform that you'll be able to build off of, like the Remington or the Savage. As your skill/budget increases you will be unable to upgrade the Mossberg parts and you will end up replacing it. Might as well start out where you're going to end up,

Patrick

My post really wasnt about the rifle as i said i was looking for imput
just annoying when people dont help they just snipe unlike your post which i also found helpful

Thats funny... considering how many other dudes suggested an SPS Varmint or Savages. Under $1000. Pull your head out of your ass.

-OP- I haven't had first hand experience with this rifle, but I personally live by this rule: You buy good, you buy once. If you do get the Mossy, I hope you get out of it what you want, hopefully more. Good luck on your search and have fun.

touchy ,funny the second half of your post doesnt make you seem like a gun snob
in any case my post if read correctly was about how some in this community would rather complain about seing a question repeated or post some snide pictures than be helpful or supportive to our members as we are supposedly meant to be.

but ill take your advise on removing my head from uncomfortable positions under advisement thank you

i made no suggestion about it i said i was also interested in a longer range rifle
"noticed i used rifle as to not poke a nerve"
i simply stated to the op to get actual accounts from people who have experience with this or have some first hand knowledge to provide
and not just folks who rage against the wind because its not expensive enough.
but i drive a hyundai santa fe so maybe my opinion doesnt count

If you search around the internet enough you will find that that most reviews of the Night train are not favouable.

People here hate to see others waste/throw away their money on junk...........we are not "Precision Snobs"........ ........ However like the old drag racing saying, "Speed costs money, how fast to you want to go", the exact same can be said for Precision shooting. If you want a consistent and accurate precision rifle you will have to invest some $$$$$$$. A Savage or Rem 700 and say a Sightron scope or used NightForce or similar make an excellent starting point for those on a budget.

The pros to a Rem 700 is that there is a vast amount of aftermarket parts for these rifles, and most gunsmiths can make them shoot very well.

The Savage doesn't have the amout of aftermarket parts available as the Remmy, but they can be found at a lower price and are accurate enough to get you in the game.

Those seriously into the Precision/Tactical game are probably into their rigs for roughly 5K -6K and up (Including optics)..........and will hold 0.5 MOA (or less) up to or past 1000 yards..........When I bought my scope a few years ago it was just over $4K...........So while you can get into the game for $1K - $2K, you will find that you will soon want to upgrade rifle/optics to achieve peak accuracy........

OP, I too was looking at the Night train and the Remy 700 sps tac. My advice is go to a store and get a feel for each gun. I liked the look of the night train, but to me it felt kinda cheap. And i wasnt going for looks. I wanted something that shoots. In the end i ended up trying a remy sps tac and loved how it shot so i bought one in the AAC-Sd with the 1-10 twist. I never did try the Night Train tho. Have yet to see one at the ranger here either. just my .02.

I don't think I have ever seen the words Mossberg and precision used in the same sentence with a positive connotation.

A guy at work bought one, took 2 shots and returned it, said it felt like an axe with a crack in the handle, he hated it. Luckily he was able to return it for store credit, the gun's still sitting there...unsold
