Yes they are accurate. No, you cannot take a lot of shots in a row with any rifle.
Every rifle barrel heats up, and will start to print all over the target as things get warm. Most of mine shoot best with 3 shots, 5 is starting to push it. Besides, most matches allow a time limit to make your shots. Spread your shots out to allow it to cool. But if your serious about target matches, a Mossberg ATR is not going to be the rifle for you anyways. They aren't made for that. They are a good entry level hunting rifle. Not a bench rifle. Save your pennies and buy a dedicated competition rifle, and don't abuse it. Cool your barrel and your scores will improve.

hmm well thanks for the tip, i know all rifles heat up, but most can heat up alot befor they are effected, especially the old rifles. Im still interested in this rifle though cause, well its 300 bucks with a scope. haha thats all i can really afford right now. but i guess i might aswell wait. i would get a competition rifle but im not gonna have 1200 bucks for the one i want for quite some time. so you dont recomend this at all for targeting?
I would recommend this rifle to the deer hunter on a budget who might go to the range once or twice a year before hunting season opens. I think you will be better served buying a Stevens 200 in .308 Winchester. Put a good scope on it and you will have, in my opinion a better rifle that has proven very accurate. It is an ideal hunting rifle, and provides a good platform as a project rifle later on as your funds permit. If youe entering sporting rifle matches, this will do you well. I would however suggest you look into handloading your own ammo tailored for your rifle. Once you find that magic load, you will have a better chance in any compitition. Put good optics on this rifle and you will have an excellent, though not pretty rifle to hunt and shoot with.
I have an ATR 100 in 270 WIN and it is very accurate with the right handloads. I also have a few savages and stevens 200's. I think they are about equally accurate as hunting rifles. A benchrest/competition rifle it is not. The sporter weight barrel on the ATR 100 is heavier than the stevens 200 but not heavy enough for consistent accuracy when shooting alot. The stevens have the advantage of many aftermarket parts available for upgrades when you have the money.
If you want a heavy barrel rifle with the possibility to turn it into a competition shooter try a savage 12fv or 10fp series for 540-650$ without the scope.
If you want an accurate hunting rifle for low cost, go with the ATR 100, it's a very good deal.
