hey guys/gals

i was looking at geting a long range rifle but dident really want to spend all to much on it.
ill be useing it mainly for target shooting and on the occasion yotes and groundhogs. i want to be able to shoot out to 800 yards.
i found the Mossberg 100 ATR Night Train in 308 win to be in the right price range.
what do you guys think of this gun? anyone shot one, er even better owned one?

If you want to buy a rifle with no intentions of customizing it, then it is probably as good as any other factory 308 for accuracy. There are good and bad with all mass produced rifles. I'd personally suggest 223 for the job, but nothing wrong with 308.

Bear in mind that common after-market upgrades such as stocks, scope bases, triggers and even (ugh) drop-in barrels are made for the big 3 and Mossberg aint one of them 3

one guy on here had his extractor break after 20 rounds on one of those, apart from that its apparently got good accuracy
that incident with the extractor is a 1 off as far as ive heard, ive been enquiring about them through my local dealer and he said hes got one and has nothing bad to say about it

have you thought about a stevens 200? I don't have personal experence with them but have heard alot of good things. and by looking at some of mystics toys they can be custimized quite nicely to say the least LOL.

and X2 on the .223 and get one with a 1-8 twist

ok im resurecting this thread.. ive been reading an american forum on the ATR 100 ... alot of these guys are finding the mossberg to be better than their 700's in standard form .. with the crappy plastic stocks .. a few have been reporting sub MOA grounps with .308 .270 and .30-06 .

also apparently have a 1:10 twist for the 270 and 308

im getting one even if they arent that accurate..
but could be worth a look.
what does everyone think ?
jerry ? the guru :D

well my SKS should be here this week (not the one from Fronteir, the Norinco from Al Simmons) so I need to shop for my next toy.... I am thinking of getting one of these now. I saw it at Wanstall's in Maple Ridge. The price was right so now I have to research....

Savage or the inexpensive Stevens (savage) in any calibre. I chose .243 and love it.

There is so much selection for the 6mm bullet that the combinations are endless.

.308 works as well because there is a massive .30 cal bullet selection as well.

.223 isn't a bad choice either but might lack a little working out to 800 yards, same with the .243. Some guys have done it but... well... I'll leave it at that.

Once you get into it you'll want to customize. The bug bites everyone.
