My first post in Rifle forum:runaway:

I need some info on 100ATRifle (interested in .270win). Anyone has one? not too many centerfire rifles for under $300 but is it worth the money? How's the accuracy, quality etc?

EDITed to add: What about Remington 710? they're $150 more but it comes with a scope... Is it a better gun? I also like detachable magazines :)

which one is more accurate?

These are basic no frills hunting rifles and they deliver. SIR has them for almost free.

Also, consider the Stevens 200. I prefer these as you have access to an enormous aftermarket should you wish to modify the rifle in the future. These shoot very well too.

Yet to find one that didn't shoot sub MOA with handloads and proper bedding.

x2 with the Stevens 200. I have one in 223 and its great value. Shoots great and you can upgrade it if you want later on easily. Mysic knows all about that.

Don't get a 710!!!!!! if you want 1 with a scope and a drop mag the
Savage 111FCXP3 can be had for $445

I see SIR raised the price of the Stevens 200 to $338.99

Forget the Rem 710! Not worth the money.

The ATR is a way better econo rifle for the money, that's where I'd go between the two.

That said, I'd look at the Rem 700 SPS first or the new Savage rifles with accutrigger.

Or the Stevens 200, if you're buying on a budget.

But I'd take an ATR, Stevens 200, new Savage or Rem 700 SPS.

Would not have a Rem 710 at any price.

OK what's wrong with Rem 710?

Real question is... what isn't... :D

Do a search on the rifle forum & you'll see... the 710 has been "well discussed" by the self-respecting rifle crowd.... If you're going to spend the money on a Rem 710, why not spend a little extra & get the Rem 700 SPS [yes, they have a detachable magazine version].

Then later you can do what you want to it, accessories wise, etc. If you want to upgrade to a nicer Rem 700 or another rifle it will be easy to sell. ;)

Won't be able to get much for a used Rem 710...

.... the 710 isn't even the 'Taurus' of the Remington line... :p

Those 710s are the junkiest (word?) rifles. There has been one on the shelf at the local gun shop for probably 10 years and no one will buy it. Its really pathetic, you should see it. There is this big yellow remington sticker on it and the print is worn off from everyone looking at it and putting it right back. If you need a detachable mag just get an SPS or the Savage with the mag.

Savage 111FCXP3 Vs. Stevens 200

how much would it cost to get the scope and mounts separatelly that come on the Savage? (I think it's a Simmons 3-9x 40 8 point) Is it a decent scope (I've always been iron sights kinda guy)?

Is the Savage 111FCXP3 (scope aside) that much better them Stevens 200?

The action and barrel are identical. The only difference is the 111FCXP3 comes with an accu-trigger and a detachable magazine, and the stock on the Stevens is battleship gray vs. black for the other. (Having said that, there are still 111FCXP3's available with the older style non-accutrigger.)

If these two features are not that important, go with the Stevens; best bang for the buck, you can always customize it later, and you can get a decent scope with the money you save.:dancingbanana:

Take it from a x-710 owner. This rifle cannot and will not shoot consistant. It is truley a sorry excuse for a rifle, youd beter off with a SKS.

I have owned a 710 and at the time it did the job (It was for my son). The disadvantages of the 710 are numerous. (Try walking into a gun store and finding a scope base for a 710!) The scope sold in the package is garbage.

The 710 action is not threaded in a way that you can add a new barrel. It was a flop. For the same money you can get into a Remington SPS with a real R-700 action, you open yourself up to the largest selection of off-the-shelf accessories, and they are actually a very accurate rifle.

Stevens rifles are a great alternative choice.

710's are cheap - plain and simple!

dont buy the 710

I found accuracy consistan 1.25 groups after i changed the scope. the bolt feels like its beded in plastic. the magazine works poorly. Its lucky to be called a remington. I will never buy another one.

:puke:. I haven't shot one, but one gunstore clerk strongly advised I don't bother with it at all. The thing is CHEAP, and feels cheaper.

I technically 'own' an ATR, but received a letter last week notifying my they ran out of stock and it'll be 31+ days. :( On the bright side the price from SIR is incredible. I got the .30-06 on advice from this and other forums. And for accuracy it's already got a pillar-bedded action and free-floated barrel.
