Hey everyone.
So this weekend here in BC we are having our biggest annual gun show, and like many people I picked myself up a new toy.
I found a Mossberg 195 bolt action 12 guage.
I had always wanted a bolt action shotgun in my collection just because of its oddity and uniqueness.
Ive been trying to find some info about these online but cant seem to find much.

Im wondering if any of you have one of these or have had experience with them and if you could pass on some wisdom. Some issues to be aware of and things to check, that kind of thing.

Hopefully someone around here has some wisdom to share.

Thanks!

Bolt action shotguns are somewhat unusual, but not rare. I had a Mossberg 185KD a while back (20ga with interchangeable choke tubes). The Mossbergs are a pretty simple design with a minimum of moving parts, so there is very little to go wrong with it. Load it, shoot it, repeat, enjoy.

I have a 195KA, it's been in the family since new. Good solid gun, fits perfect. They were made mid to late '50's. The C-Lect choke is handy. I can't think of any issues to look out for that isn't prone to any other gun. The mags show up on the EE every now and then if you're looking for an extra.. Just be aware that the side ports will leave your ears ringing when you shoot it without ear protection.

I feel better after reading this thread . I thought I was the only freak who liked bolt action shotguns . I've had a few over the years . I put together a slug gun on a 195 , still one of the most accurate smooth bore slug guns I've ever owned , I love them .

I have had the bug since I first seen one in the local classifieds(news paper) I have a Mossberg 183 in .410 and a Stevens model 58 both with adjustable chokes. both are a little finicky but work well and they been used in the field for so long I'm not worried about scratching or dinging them up.

then again I have a fascination for anything utilitarian I'm the same with pickups I like them basic.

My first shotgun was an old Savage bolt action 410 , I loved that gun . I gave it to my nephew many years ago when he was old enough to come hunting with us . His daughter , my great niece , is learning to shoot with it . It isn't an expensive gun , but it is priceless ........... and it still works on Grouse and Snow Shoes . In over 45 years of hunting , I've never been without a bolt shotgun of one form or another . There is a lot of nostalgia involved , when I take a boltgun out for chickens , I feel like a kid again .

i have owned a couple. they are a good gun for little money. the prices seem to be creeping upwards on them . several years ago they could be had for less than a hundred dollars . now they seem to bring twice that.

they still pop up for $100 to $125 from time to time I wish I bought I marlin goose gun when they were cheap.

There is just something about them that I really like. A no fuss, simple shotgun. My grandfather (who lives overseas) has the same gun, so there is that special factor as well which I like.
