Mossberg 195 Winter Project

nice finds on the information. I have this shotgun too and spent some time re-blueing it this summer. I am now working on the stock which is cracked in half at the wrist. I had bought what i thought was a 12ga stock but turned out to be a 20, so now working on fixing the original. you can see my progress on my youtube channel. Interesting that they call it a take down model.

Ya, my bad, once ya get started...it's hard to stop.

It's good to have others share info like 'HeadHunter" did.

That looks great!
Any chance someone knows the barrel threads or even the barrel diammeter where it meets the action? This action is my top pick for a slug gun build with a rifled barrel

My barrel wasn't that bad, and decided to only do some 'spot re-blueing'
A gamble that paid off. Sometimes ya get lucky.
Most, like you I do the vinegar bath and start over.
Notice your 195 has a Bakelite butt plate...interesting where mine has a rubber.
I think these shottie where only in production 1954-55.
Surprised they had both with only being an 'entry level' gun.

interesting, i wonder if someone wanted a little longer stock at some point and put that one. doesn't look shortened.

worked on my stock a bit today. tomorrow I glue some threaded rod in it to help hold it together. once that sets I will glue the two pieces together and see if I get a good bond.

your rifle turned out nice. nice job on the checkering. going to have to learn how to do that next. what bluing product did you use?

I picked up a bottle of Birchwood Super Blue.

Checkering is fun takes a bit of time, harder the wood quicker the heads wear out too.

interesting video. I have looked at some to get some ideas. Have to start watching more of them. I have drilled out the center of the stock to put a parallel piece of rod in for some more support. the surgical tubing is neat. I have an old bike inner tube, I will cut down thin and see if it will do the same thing.
