Mossberg 340BA .22 Scope Mount Question

Hi All,

A friend of my wife gave me a Mossberg 340BA 22S-L-LR rifle in pretty decent shape. I would like to mount a small scope on it but cannot find much information on mounts for this gun. Does anyone know anything about these rifles?

340 has a standard rimfire dovetail, any .22 rings will work.

I can't remember, is the receiver grooved for a scope? If so, any 11mm dovetail scope mount should work. Many rimfire scopes come with the dovetail mounts. If it's not grooved, then you will have to drill and tap holes in which case you might as well have a gunsmith do it and he can provide the necessary mounts.

Standard dovetail, 340 is one of the newish models....at least to me, most of mine are WWII or earlier.

Yes, the receiver is grooved. Thanks so much for the information. I am new to guns this year and have lots to learn.

That's a great rifle to start with. They were really accurate. Try CCI standard velocity and see what it does.

I have a couple packs of those CCI Standard velocity .22LR. Went plinking yesterday and at 50 yards, it was hitting the little spinning targets quite reliably.
