I recently acquired a Mossberg 400g and I am wondering if anyone knows whether the parts for this shotgun are interchangeable with the mossberg 500? I would like to make this a tactical shotgun but need a little more info before proceeding. Any help is appreciated.

Cheers.

Yes, but the 400 G is an older Mossberg made model 500 variant for the Canadian market. It will have a fore arm metal sleeve with wood fore end. Measure the metal sleeve with the fore end removed (wood) most aftermarket parts made for the Mossberg 500 will fit BUT the fore end length is critical for proper fit.

A year ago I wanted a full length stock for my sons Mossberg 20 gauge youth model. I called the service line at Mossberg and gave them the serial number and got a part number for the full length stock. If you have a friend in the U.S. to get it for you prices are really good and shipping is 3 days. I eventually went that route due to months of delay trying to deal through Mossbergs Canadian distributors, absolutely terrible service.

Even the older Mossberg 500's have single action bars (go figure, the 400G was the 500 made by Lakefield here in Canada)
I've talked to Mossberg about them, dual action bars came about in the 1970ish time frame. 400G/500 design has been in existence since 1961 (over 50 years).

Parts should interchange, but the single bar versions have been known to be a pita trying to remove the forearm/action bar assembly.
