I have my friends Mossberg 400G in my possession and there is a problem with the tube spring. It isn't working, shells aren't being pushed back and the piece that is at the end of the spring that the first shell in pushes against is sliding up and down the tube on its own... How do I disassemble the tube to get the spring out?

Its threaded on. Possibly locktited on. Soak on penetrating oil over night and use a heat gun to warm up the receiver and twist the tube out. A pipe wrench may crush the tube

When i took mine out i used welding glove to protect the receiver and put it in a vice, dont squish it too hard, it is only aluminum. Now take the glove for the other hand and wrap it around the top of the mag tube, where the barrel bolt threads in to is solid(you should know by looking at it what i mean). Turn it out with a pipe wrench. It was regular righty tighty lefty loosey on my 400G.

Watch that the receiver is not twisting or getting damaged and watch that the pipe wrench on the tube is not tearing up the glove and scratching the tube. Mine had threadlocker on it, but i didn't need to use heat.

Good luck :)

Use a strap wrench on the tube instead of a pipe wrench; no chance of marring the tube that way.

I used vice grips over a thick rubber pad and steady pressure. No marring done to the metal. The gun is pretty rough and the owner wouldn't have cared if it did get scuffed. This is probably the first time the gun has had a proper cleaning in 20+ years, it was diiiiiirty..

Good to hear you got it out. Don't forget some blue lock tight on the mag tube or every time you try and take off the barrel the mag tube will probably spin out too, maybe not the first time you take it off but it will eventually.
