I acquired one of these old rifles from my wife's Grandpa, and it seems like a quality and solid shooter. Anybody have any tips or tricks to share? I think all that's missing is the front sight hood.

Does your gun say US Property and have a serial number? If you go to rimfire central forum, you will find out a lot under the mossberg forum. Great bunch of guys on that forum.

This one doesn't have the government stamp, it was originally purchased at Eaton's in Montreal in 1945. For $35.

Those old Mossbergs were quality rifles, usually astoundingly accurate.
Some say they are ugly, but I can certainly handle that when I have a tackdriver in hand.
I have a number of older Mossberg rifles, and I am very fond of them.
My 144 LSB is stupid accurate for it's age and low initial cost.
Enjoy the 44US, It's a great 22!!
