Looking for help with value of a Mossberg 46M in very good to excellent condition. Have a few old Mossbergs and must say not one of them has disappointed me as to accuracy. Actually outshoots some of the Anschutz rifles if I do my part. Have a chance to pick up this rifle but would like to know a fair price to pay.

I bought a complete VG-EX 42M(b) off the board here for $125 not too long ago, seen and bough several old mossy's on consignement at the local gunshop here for $100-$125. Look/shop around before you drop $300 on a run of the mill mossy.
Check Epps often, (and the other dealers) they have a 42MB US Marked for $219...
23" BBL, VERY GOOD BORE, FULL LENGTH WOOD STOCK, REAR PEEP SIGHT, INTERCHANGEABLE FRONT SIGHT POSTS, UNITED STATES PROPERTY MARKED, "AMMIL 82" ON BBL BAND, SLING LOOPS, DETACHABLE MAG

I must have missed that excellent 42M on here for $125.00. Either way, you can't go by a deal that one person got one for, plus the 46M is harder to come across than a 42M. I have three 42M's but only one 46M. And Winnipeg Toymaker is correct. Fair market value for a 46M in decent shape with all sights is $250.00. You sure wouldn't buy mine for $125.00-$150.00. You could get that for the sights alone. So if you got a excellent 42M with all sights for $125.00, the seller evidently didn't check prices or was in a hurry to get rid of it.

I put a WTB, had the offer the next day.
CGN has inflated prices for just about everything, but there are still tons of deals on old mossy 22's out there. Check consignments, call gunshops, there are much better deals around then CGN for the most part.
Personally I like the just pre-war and war time models, they seem to be the best made. Very early mossy's are pretty shoddy IMHO, and the post war stuff isn't very good quality either IMHO.

I too like the pre war or war time or post war models, pretty much anything pre the 300 series of Mossbergs. And yes, you can find deals if you look and sometimes area makes a difference. But I like to tell people what the typical market price is for a gun depending on condition and what they should be prepared to pay if they really want a particular gun. If someone can find a gun for less then what they typically sell for, that is great for them. I myself have found guns for considerably less than what they normally sell for, but I have also paid more if in very nice condition and if I really wanted it. I have also paid too much for some guns because they were not as described but thank goodness most sellers I have dealt with have been honest and straight foreward.

I have bought guns that came cheap but usually worn out or broken, wrong sights etc.. Cheap is not necessarily the best. Honest sellers are. I got some steals and also paid premium for some I really wanted.

Speaking of Mossberg prices. I see the 151M(B) just sold on the EE in one day and it was listed at $200.00. Now I think the buyer paid the top price for this one. I say that because the 151 is not uncommon, it did not have the rear barrel sight which is $50.00 or more to buy off ebay and it did not have the front sight hood or the sling swivels and it had the wrong peep sight. It was listed as an S100 peep and it should be the S130 on this gun. If the buyer wants to put these all on to get it back to original, he will then have about a $300.00 gun or more. Actually a lot more if the proper peep sight is put back on. For a 151, it would need to be in excellent shape to be $300.00 or more dollars but this is just my opinion. If the person really wanted it and is happy with it, that is what counts the most. However, the prices are climbing on these old Mossbergs.

Although there are always market exceptions, the prices I've seen depend largely on condition, if it has a repaired or dented stock, missing parts or parts that don't work, then $125-150. If it is in decent shape and has sights that work then $175-200. If it is a mint original model then more, but I'm not sure how much more, I can see $250 but you likely need to find a serious collector to sell one for $300.
A collector may spend a long time looking for a specific rifle that looks like it just came off the assembly line, but I would say most typical buyers don't care if a rear sight has a screw-in disc rather than a clip-on disc, and they aren't looking for 3 sights, they just want a classic accurate rifle.
