Hi guys I have been shooting my Mossberg 4x4 in 30.06 and over a coarse of maybe 50 rounds I have had 7 misfires (ie firing pin striking the primer but no bang).
At first I thought it was the ammo but today I was shooting hand loads and I had two misfires. Does this mean that the firing pin has been worn or do you think it is a manufacturing defect? Overall the rifle has approximately 200 rounds fired through it. Does anybody have any experience with Mossberg 4X4's?

What do the primers look like when it doesn't fire? Is it a light indentation? I'd open up the bolt, remove all grease, check the passage hole for of the firing pin because there may be debris, and if all checks out good, try a different brand of ammo.

Keep the non-fired ammo and take picks of the rear of the ammo. Send it off to Mossberg in an email and see what they say. You can't be the only one with this issue.
 
Myself and Ridgearms have both had this problem, particularly with cheapass Winchester ammo (mine's a .270). I disassembled the bolt, cleaned the crappy grease out of it, machined about 2mm off the face of the firing pin seat and lubed it with this crazy spray stuff my buddies at Dupont gave me...ran a box of Hornady rounds through it without a single misfire after that...

I suspect its a combo of a slightly short firing pin, a weaker spring, and that crappy grease gumming it up...
Definitely a manufacturing defect.
 
Thats amazing. Only thing I have ever had misfire is a 22lr. None of my rifles has ever done that but then I dont own a Mossberg. The poeple I shoot with consider them cheap guns so I just dont buy them. The new levergun looks nice though. Luck with that. If it is new I would take it back in a flash.
 
Hmmm...stocks that break, bolts that don't lock up, misfires, and something about a guy that had to have an arm amputated....good guns for sure :puke:
