I'm thinking of picking up the mossberg 500 combo with a Cylinder Bore barell and a Modified barell as well. Any opinions on this Shotgun? I want it for safety out i the woods, and to try out birding next year.
Any help/comments would be great.
 
I have a 500 that I use for waterfowl hunting. It has never jammed, misfed or misfired even with dirt and mud in the action. Easy to strip and clean also. As mentioned above the new models come with a vent rib barrel and 3 interchangeable choke tubes for under $300.
 
for the money ,why not? i haven't had very many in my shop, for an economy priced shotgun, except for a few safety repairs. they're not the prettiest and they rattle when they're new and thirty years later, but they function well so there's absolutely no reason not to.if you get one with a fixed choke, you can have it reamed and tapped for choke tubes.
 
Nevermind, I couldn't find the 500 with chokes instead of barells... Got it now.
For future reference, what is the law on number of shells in the magazine at once?
 
the gun must be plugged for three shells total. magazine and chamber.as i mentioned earlier , you can still have it bored and tapped to accept choke tubes.
 
I bought a 500 this year works well, The only thing I will change is I going to order a 24 inch barrel for bird OO buck and turkey loads keep the 28 for water fowl. Found it a bit too long for dogging through the woods.

I just bought a new 500 20g with the screw in chokes and I've got a couple 12g 500's, one of them is a little old so Im going to cut down to 18.5 inches and add on a pistol grip and synthetic forwood along with some other bits and make a full tactical personal protection system :)
