Looking to spend part of my tax return on a shotgun, is it worth going for the mossberg for the extra barrel and accessory availability. I really like the SXP and I doubt I would really ever use the rifled slug barrel, but I would prefer if the 18" barrel was threaded for chokes but it's not likely needed.

Basically I want a 28" barrel for clays and possibly duck/goose and Turkey hunting, as well as a short barrel for around the yard for squirrels, pigeons, magpies, coons, skunks etc. I have rifles so shooting slugs won't happen much, if at all.

Anybody see a reason why the mossberg would be better for me, I think I would prefer the shorter barrel with the SXP. Also the ported barrels sound like a good idea but I've never been around them, I can get an extended ported choke for the SXP so it probably doesn't matter, but if they aren't worth it then I don't need to get them. Also if I do got for the SXP can I get a wood or laminate stock set that will fit them.

Most importantly which is the better more reliable shotgun, I've heard good things about the SXP but it's seems both ways on the mossberg.

Found the 3 in 1'at Epps.

And the SXP at cabelas for $500, anybody know where I can get it for that price from a site sponsor

Also what's the difference between the mossberg 500 series and 800 series, they are both pumps, so is the 800 to 500 like the wingmaster to 870 express.

Since you don't intend to shoot slugs, I would go with a 28" barrel, and not worry about a second barrel at all. As for ported barrels, avoid them if you can, other than producing more noise to the shooter, they offer no real advantage. The same is true for ported chokes. As for the 3 in 1, I actually laughed when I thought about someone actually paying extra money to have three barrels for a pump shotgun. I prefer the SXP myself, but avoid the 3-1/2" model that is being recalled.

I am leaning towards the SXP had a look the other day in cabelas, was originally only looking for a 28" barrel. But the combo is only $10 more so I figure why not
