mossberg 500 action bars

Hello

I am thinking of getting a Mossberg 500 rolling thunder and adding a Magpul buttstock, and forend. My question is are the action bars on this gun welded? I have read that some 500's have welded bars preventing you from replacing the forend.

Most new 500's have the action bars connected to the forend permenantly (mine does). In order to change the forfend you will require a new "action slide tube assembly". They are about 50 buck usd from Brownells. You put that on, then add whatever grip you want.

I have the Mossberg Flex (based on 500), and the action bars are permanently fixed to the forend. However, the forend allows for different grip attachments on the Flex.

It depends on how "new" the 500 is. If its a yet-unbought gun, you are probably looking at something with a welded forend.

The new ones have the action bars welded to the forend. You can either find a forearm you like that also has the action bars attached, like this one http://www.hical.ca/maverick-railed-replacement-forend/
