Mossberg 500 build

I kept bumping my thumb on my face due to the shortness of the Hogue stock. You will have to modify you shooting position a little bit.

Remove barrel, have pump fully extended, use a special forend tool or even a sturdy dull knife (you will probably have to remove the entire forend and rails from mag tube for this) to slot into the two notches in the retaining ring at the top of the forend for this, unscrew, pull resin sleeve off. It is much easier to have a proper forend tool and leave the forend still mounted on the mag tube and rails inserted in the receiver slots.

Great piece of kit... You would of asked me a couple years ago and I would of said a pistol grip ATI was great... LMFAO....

Im glad I changed my ways.... Less is more...

Thanks for sharing, I'm very interested in getting the Hogue for my 500. The factory fore end overlaps the receiver and prevents mounting of side saddles - the Hogue fore end seems to have almost no overlap in the rearward position.

The 12" LOP option might be useful as well for taking a more "squared off" shooting position. Undecided at this point... the 14 would be nice if I decide to swap on the 28" barrel as a backup for hunting.

590A1 SPX with hogue stock

Sorry for the rubbish photo...what a fantastic upgrade! I should have done this ages ago, must be at least a 3" reduction. Makes the gun much easier to handle.

More of a Rem fan here, but this one looks really, really good.
I used to have a 870 with the short lop hogue... Loved it except for the thumb on the nose that made me cry every now and then.

Dilligaf, can you please give us a brief rundown on what you've done?

I'm guessing you had a Mossy 500, put on a Hogue set and swapped the mag tube. Where did you get the mag tube kit and what else have I missed? I have a Lakefield 400 that a lot of these upgrades might work on.

Thanks.

Compared to the original stock, how much does the Hogue stock shorten the LOP? I know that it is advertised to 12" but I'm curious as to how much shorter it is compared to the original. I feel as though a stock 1-2" shorter than the original stock would fit me much better.

Also, can you PM me with the details as to where you got it?

Thanks!

+ 1 billion!

I've been looking everywhere for a Hogue 12" LOP stock in Canada! No luck so far :(
