well, I was finally able to buy my first gun! I have had several "family" guns while growing up, but this is the first one I have chosen, bought and payed for on my own.

I know its not a Beretta or anything, but its mine :)

its supposed to be some sort of Special Purpose model, with its polished walnut, shiny bluing, gold trigger, muzzle break, dual bead sights and recoil pad. it came with 3 choke tubes, trigger lock and some stickers.

Its a 28" vent ribbed barrel and I chose that because I want to do trap shooting with it. I will get an 18.5" barrel for closer work later on.

yea, I couldn't find any negative reviews on it, its choice by the US military, and its never failing ability to just flat out work, I knew it was the right gun for me.

and that bolt tooling is a nice touch. the bottom of the elevator is the same way.

I don't like the pink recoil pad tho... I would rather it be black.

Any tips/tricks/cheap things I should do to it?

Don't worry about the pink that will be a shade of orange before you know it. I don't know any tips other than to keep it oiled and clean and it will last a life time.

I'll tell you what you should do with it, enjoy it. Go out break clays, go hunting and smile and take lots of pictures.
Thats a fantastic gun and should provide you years of enjoyment, buy your self a good cleaning kit if you don't have one already and it will last you as long as you want to own it.

That is Mossberg's retro 500 model. Look at early 500 guns from about 1964 on and they all have the red (pink) pad and the tooled bolt and carrier. With the walnut stock it is a great tribute to a great gun. BUT you have a ported barrel with two action bars and screw in chokes to make it even better. Enjoy , it will last forever if cleaned and maintained.

Very nice! I bought one of those brand new in 2008 on the day I got my PAL, first brand new gun I bought and I still have it.

I got a cleaning kit. Its one of the Outers ones in a wooden case, with all the stuff in it. Brushes, mops, shotgun stuff, and parts from .22 all the way up to 12g.

and a bottle of Outers solvent and a bottle of Hoppes 9 oil.

don't know wtf to do with it tho, hehe

i like wipe out better then hoppes unless its that elite stuff that foams. make sure whatever you do the barrel is lubed with solvent or what have you before you start brushing or anything abrasive. patch clean, oil, patch clean done ! get a bore snake for that :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: and a good brush for the bore and some patches and your golden. inspect the bore for any obstructions once your done and before ya shoot.

They call the pattern on the bolt jewelling.

Put a wooden dowel in a drill press and press away on all your metal and it makes it look like that if you take your time.
