Moderator - this might be a good sticky.

The new Mossberg 500 has undergone a design change to the forestock action assembly. Formerly, the action was cycled by a tubular metal Action Slide Tube Assembly, which fit over the Magazine Tube. The wood or synthetic fore-stock was held in place around the Slide Tube by an Action Slide Tube Nut. If installation of an after-market fore-stock was desired, the nut was undone; the new fore-stock installed; and the nut re-installed.

The current issue of the 500 has adopted the Maverick 88 style fore-stock. The action slide bars are an integral part of the fore-stock, and are held in place in the fore-stock by a double spring clip. The fore-stock fits directly over the Magazine Tube, and the metal Action Slide Tube Assembly and Action Slide Tube Nut are no longer. The result is that after-market fore-stocks like the ATI SFS0400 will no longer fit the new Mossberg 500.

Options for those wanting a smaller tactical-style fore-stock appear to be limited to ordering an Action Slide Tube Assembly and Action Slide Tube Nut from Brownell's or Havlin at a cost of $50.00 or so, or ordering a Maverick forearm assembly from Mossberg, which comes with the smaller old-style tactical fore-stock and should be fully compatible.

The after-market ATI and other stocks; pistol grips; etc. all fit fine on the new style 500 - the fore-stock appears to be the only issue.
