Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 Express???

There is a reason the 870 is more money. It will outlast the Mossberg in frequent usage. It is built more ruggedly of better materials. If you are only going to fire a couple of boxes of shells a year, buy the one that feels the best to you. If you are going to do a lot of shooting, buy the Remington.
How can you say that, when the mossberg is the only pump-action[of the ones tested, they tested the 870 too] shotgun that could stand up to the U.S. Army tests, something like a 5,000 rd torture test.

The Remington passed also but cost more, so Mossberg it was. Some 870 shotguns have feeding problems ( like mine, see 870 jamming ) The Mossberg seems to feed anything. The Remington is a better built gun, but at this point I am going to sell my Rem and buy a Moss. The jamming thing is really common on the super mag 870.

I just bought a 870 and i'm very happy with it. Seems like a good quality/price ratio gun. Loads and fires well. Although i've never tried the mosberg.

I have a 590,and I like it O.K.,but it will never be as smooth as my friends 870.

Was at Reliable Gun and Tackle today and see that Remington has a 30.00 mail in rebate on 870 Expresses, Wingmasters and Core-Lokts until the end of the year....:D

Well boys, it's a done deal. I'm now the proud owner of a Remington 870 Express. It handles 12g, 2.75" and 3" shells, and it came with a 26" vent rib barrel. I went with the hardwood stock instead of synthetic.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I went to Wholesale Sports in Winnipeg and tried a bunch of different shotguns. The Remington fits very well, when I shoulder the gun, the bead lines up right where it needs to be. The Mossberg 500 did not fit as well, so it was worth it spending the extra $$$.

SIR was slightly cheaper, but I do not think they had the 26" barrel available. The gentleman at the firearms counter at Wholesale gave me excellent service and advice, so I figured that's worth a few extra $$$.
Anyways, I'm happy now!:dancingbanana: Time to go shooting!

Congratulations! I'm sure you're going to have a great time with it. I picked up an 870 Super Mag combo a while back, and liked it so much I picked up an 870 MM a couple of weeks back.

Happiness is a new 870 :).

:D Congrats!! I recently bought an 870 Express with a synthetic stock and am quite happy with it (it replaced a Win Defender). In hindsight, the only thing I should have done different was to spend the extra bucks on the Marine Magnum, maybe next time....Damn that thread on the Marine Magnum...;)
