Mossberg 500 pump action 410 ?

I'm thinking of purchasing one.

I have looked at a new Wingmaster 410. The action was very stiff, looking down at the rib was a bit wavy and, center bead was off center. Not the Remington I used to know.

In comparison the new Mossberg 410 action was smooth and, properly put together with no obvious defects. Wood is plain but won't care when it's dinged/scratched.

It will be used for grouse and rabbit. The area's I hunt have fairly dense cover. Range is 15-25 paces. Average is 20. Don't have a chance to shoot on the wing.

Anyone own one or in the past, what was your experience ?
 
Never had one but 1. Wow, disappointing to hear about Remington... 2. I do a lot of upland and 410 is a great bush gun for that 15-20 metre range. I use a light double rather than a pump however to catch the flush after I shoot a planted bunny or grouse.

Cabela's has that 500 on sale for 359 right now btw. For what it is worth I have only heard good things about the 410 mossberg. If you want to spend more the shorter 410 uplander or coach gun is actually okay quality - swing is poor - for around $500.
 
They are decent guns. Won't win a beauty contest but won't let you down either.
I too prefer doubles so I've sold majority of my pumps. I should have kept my 410 mossberg
 
I have one it stays with me all hunting season for grouse. Never had an issue with it it seems to shoot everything I feed it. They are not pretty but it sits behind the seat of the truck and gets scratched up and abused anyways. I've had it for over 10 years now so for me it has been a great purchase.
 
Dad bought me one new back when I was around the single to dubble digit of age.
I gave it to my buddy and his wife for a wedding present.
While it still functions, it sure don't looky like anything back in the day.
Picked up a few rattles, but it's blessed.

I giggle like a silly skewl gal when I see it ever once in a blue mewn.
 
Got one for some Skeet practice. Been pretty solid. One of the aluminum rivets that holds the arms on the action tube broke. Replaced it with a cut down steel nail.
That said, it's not designed for heavy skeet use.

Still happy for the price.
 
Bought my son a Mossberg 500 pump 410 few years ago. I was stiff actioned when new but after a season of shooting it loosened up. Decent shotgun for the 300 bucks it cost me. Only shortcoming would be the fixed full barrel in my opinion.
 
I've used my brother in law's Mossberg 500 in .410 in conditions you described. It made me want one.

We make sure we always use 3" shell. Had a box of 2.5" 7.5 shot shells and all these did was hurt birds instead of killing them.
 
first NIB firearm I ever purchase and it is all I use for grouse. Love this gun. Does everything it's supposed to for $300. The only thing I would mention is you have to pull all the way back on it, when cycling quick, before pushing forward again otherwise it doesn't load a round and when you cycle again you drop one on the ground and one goes in the chamber. Buy it and love it!

The 2.5" 7.5 shot was what we HAD and quickly ditched. ;)

I usually haul my Cooey 20 ga. + 2.75" 1 oz. 6 shot... like I did earlier this afternoon. :)
