I really want one of these as I like the high capacity, the 20" barrel and the look of the barrel and mag tube being the same length.

Not sure which one tho. Yes the 590 can have a thick walled barrel and ghost rings, but I can add those to any commonly produced shotgun. The persuader is a hundred bucks cheaper.

what am I missing? Does the 590 have better internal parts over the 500? I currently have a long barreled, wood stocked 500 and want a shorter one with higher shell capacity.

I'd love a Blackwater, but they are a bit spendy.

thanks!

I purchased a 500 persuader for 199$ on sale. stuck a hogue short stock set on it ( 100$ - 40$ after selling the OEM ) . got a metal trigger guard from brownells ( 75$ -35$ after selling the OEM) and got a metal safety. 20$

After all those mods it was still cheaper than a 590.

Nice Persuader dude ^^^ I want one myself. That fire sight bead is great. Drop in replacement? Details?

I have a 590A1, I like the heavy feel of the gun and the metal trigger guard. Not because I don't like plastic, I do, but I like the metal.

The receivers are the same between the 500 and the 590.

The factory ghost ring sights and orange rifle blade sight on the A1 is fantastic. Better than other gr sights like the XS in my opinion.

You may also be interested in the 590 SP which is halfway between the 500 Persuader and the 590A1.

One advantage of the 590 is that the magazine tube can be extended.

The 500 is a fixed length magazine tube, which cannot be extended.

Neither of them has screw in chokes.
The 590 is easier to have machined for chokes, because the barrel walls are much thicker.

The 590A1 also has a trigger pull adjustment. It can be set to either 5 lbs or 2.5 I believe. Not sure if the 500 has this feature. Not many people know this. Likely because the owners manual doesn't typically get read all the way through lol.

It's not really a trigger pull adjustment feature. You are removing the backup hammer spring.

What will you be using either Mossy for? Hiking? Fowl? 3 gun?
I have the 20 inch 500 with a Kicklite stock. Super reliable, never failed even with quick cycling. With the stock, slugs are mild too. Mine's a strictly range shotty. My problem with the bubba'ed Mossy is that they are HEAVY, the 20 inch barrel is a bit unweldy, and where you attach the sling from the stock to the end of the mag tube makes for a very uncomfortable shoulder carry. The shotgun sits so that the barrel is exactly at your shoulder height and dangles really low due to the length. Since both the 590 and 500 have the same internals, if you want a tactical shotty, it is probably cheaper to bubba the 500 to your specs than pay more for some features you may not want or need. My $0.02.

I to prefer the added weight/feel to my 590a1. It was a few bucks more than the standard 500, but not substantial. No mods to be made, its ready to rock as is, where is, whenever I need it. Feels good, fits well, and has (and hopefully never will) let me down. Love my 590a1.

You will be very happy with either. I owned a 20" 500 and ended up selling it for a 18.5" 590a1. For me the 18.5" had better balance. Either way they're both great pumps!

I doubt if you would ever wear the 500 out , but in the over all scheme of things ; a 100 bucks is really here nor there....I would go with the 590 and be ready to rock right out of the box....

You can't go wrong with a Mossberg 500 or 590/A1. I've owned them in 14", 18.5" and 20" bbl lengths….enjoyed them all.
My cabinet holds two now…20" 590A1 with GRS and Vang Comp System(ported & back-bore) and a 500 18.5" with Raptor grip.

I don't want bias opinion but I am contemplating to purchase either 590A1 Blackwater or 870 Tactical Police. Which one is better? They are about the same price.

the US military competition for their shotgun showed clearly that the Mossberg was better. And I have hardly ever heard about a problem with a Mossberg pump. Can't be said for the Remington. At least not stock.

thank you all for your responses.

The piece of info they don't mention is that Remington did not submit the 870 for the test....

The barrel on the 590s are super thick and add a #### tonne of extra weight. Consider that when thinking about recreational shooting versus hundreds of rounds in a combat zone that it was designed for. You will probably be able to get away with the lighter, $100 cheaper 500 persuader with no skin off your back! Honestly, even if you tried, I doubt you'd wear down the 500 to the point where you regret it.

My 2cents.

I went to LeBaron today and the guy said they don't carry Mossberg because they are low end stuff. I asked him I thought Remington and Mossberg are the same level. And then he said well Remington is up a notch than Mossberg. I was wondering if he even knows what he is talking about.
