Mossberg 500 question

I recently bought a mossberg 500 3 barrel combo. Very pleased with it other than the fact that the forend is the cheap one without the slide tube. It's super loose and seems pretty flimsy. Does anyone know if replacing it with a slide action tube and new forend will make it tighter? And if I can buy a forend with the same realtree camo finish that will fit the action tube?
 
^is the slide action tube at least sturdier than the cheapo all in one forend? When my forend is off the gun there's tones of wiggle up and down I feel like it's just a matter of time before it snaps. I can live with some slop I just want the peace of mind that it's solid and not gonna snap on me.
 
I can't see it snapping without some sort of very extreme and odd manipulation. The slide arms are shock protected with the spring system and the arms are also supported by the receiver most of the time. Shoot it and enjoy it. You may have to replace those parts in 40 years or so....

They seem to be all like that. Don't let that bother you too much, I have one which I have been abusing since day one. It has yet to cause any concern. its a solid gun the way it is.
 
So buying the slide tube assembly from brownells won't improve the slop or reliability and is just a waste of ammo money? Thanks for the feedback everyone
 
I just checked: mossberg 500, ithaca 37, remington 870, winchester model 12 and a ksg. All have slop in the forend, however the 500 has the most play. It's still the one I would likely grab first, as it is the easiest to load and, well it's a 500.
 
On the 500, its only the forend tube itself that rotates causing the slop. The action bars move only slightly with it, and are supported by the receiver.
 
The 500 is an utilitarian shotty. Nothing wrong with the slop. Mine is the cheapo combo barrel also, its got the riveted forward foreend.
 
Don't worry, 3000 rounds in my first year with the plastic forend, i started to crack it, i have a post on here in shotgun section showing the damage. 6000 rounds and 3 years and its broken and currently at the gunsmith getting Warranty that is 10 years. I might not have treated mine the nicest but that is my go to beat down in the bush/march/duckblind gun. The slop by the way is normal for mossburg, every gun has it and is known for it. Ive had mine loaded full of dirt in the action and it still functioned perfectly fine, no misfires or anything, its what its designed for not to stop working if it gets a little dirty like some guns will.
 
The slop isn't what bugs me so much. It's just that I feel like the little paper clip looking pin that holds the action bars to the forend seems like it's not built to last. If the action tube assembly is better built I feel like the extra 70 bucks I'd spend thru brownells would be worth the piece of mind that it's not gonna break on me at an inopportune time.

Hical sells the replacement tube and action bar assembly too.

Only saw the promag version at hical, Brownells has the Mossberg OE slide tube. Would rather go that route, haven't heard much good about promag.
 
What models of the 500 have the pin attached forends?

I'm looking at a new 8 shot Persuader for cheap and it appears to have a regular forend, like my 590s. (This would be my first 500)

I believe the Persuader and tactical trip rail (any tactical model) still come with the tube assembly.
