I searched a bit in the forum for mossberg, but didn't find much on the 500 series (maybe I didn't go back far enough). I am considering a Mossberg 500. Either a field gun, or the Persuader. I will likely just use it for trap and blasting at the range.

Can anyone here provide a review of these? I assume these are turkish made, since they are inexpensive. Seems like the US military likes the Persuader line enough.

Yup.. you got it, made in Turkey.

Seriously though... no. They are made in the US. I just bought a 500A and so far have had good results with it. Fit and finish look good and it seems to have a well thought out design.

I purchased the field / security combo from Cabelas and it included both an 18.5" barrel and a 28" barrel for $299. Looks like this would solve both your wants / needs.

The 500 is a very light gun and easy to pack around, but you will feel it if you shoot 3” mag slugs out of it. The 590 is a bit heavier and a even contender with the 870, sort of a Ford vs Chevy debate. With the traditional stock I prefer the Mossberg controls, with the Knoxx Arms recoil reducing stock the 870 controls are better located. The Mossberg are fine guns, pick the one that is right for you.

WOW!!! You must be brand new! Sorry but the Mossberg 500 is one of the most widely used, and most reliable shotguns you can find. 100% american made, and has been around for along time.

The only bad thing anyone will have to say about a Mossberg 500 is that it is not a Remington 870. They are probably the most widely used shotgun in North America, with the Mossberg right behind it.

I personally prefer the Mossberg for hunting purposes as the use the tang safety on top of the reciever, and they are slightly lighter weight. Some will say they are not as smooth as the 870 but time will solve that issue.

The Mossbergs are great guns and there isn't anyone who will argue that. Pick one up and you will be happy.

Mossy 500

Yeah..bought mine about 15 years ago, it came with a 28" vented rib barrel and an 18 1/2" slug barrel with rifle sights.....I use both and have no complaints other than the cheesy plastic tang safety which was replaced with metal the first year I owned it....

I fully agree with this statement. I have owned my 500A for 26 years and it has been flawless. I highly recommend one. However, you may get varying opinions on Mossberg 500's with some people going as far as to say that they are junk. These folks are incorrect. In fact, outside of my personal experience, the reviews of the 500 by shotgun editors in various magazines I have read over the years are invariably favourable.

Seriously!? Nothing came up in the search for mossberg 500? Odd.
500 is a great gun. Very light, smooth shooting gun. The safety is in a great location.
I'd buy another in a second. Rock solid.

I've had mine about 5 or 6 years, thousands off shells through the pipe. Used as a clay gun and a hunter. No problems. Would recommend one.

My Mossberg 500 is the only shotgun I own. It breaks about 1000 clays during the summer and kills its fair share of ducks and geese during the fall. It's never failed on me and it's extremly smooth. I prefer it over the 870 due to the location of the saftey and the action release, also I find it just "feels" better to me. One thing I don't like is they are starting to make them with ported barrels. I'm not a big fan of that, too much noise for no benifit.

My first shotgun was a Mossberg 500A field. Got it brand new 2 years ago and have put around 200 rounds through it. No complaints at all. The price was right too. If you plan to shoot clays, get the field model and then an aftermarket 18.5 barrel, or buy a 500 combo.

No you got it right the 1st time.

Guns are just like any other product, oursourced.
Why just 3days a go i was in a cnc shop in ontario watching savage guns being made, cast right into them was made in USA.
The Box of castings were shipped from china.

Remington is another company that does this ,funny remington owend a company that imports guns from china.
That company sells an 870 knock off looks just like the 870 express, but what do i know...

weatherby shotguns , made in turkey by Hasan

S&W 3000 shotgun , were made in Japan by Howa.

No one can afford to make things in the 1st world anymore.

Can't go wrong with a Mossberg 500. I've owned a couple and they perform beautifully. In the field, shooting trap, in thick bush. I've routinely put 200 rounds through them in one day. Sometimes as many as 500. It's not much compared to some semi-autos. But you usually don't pay $100 for a semi-auto trap gun.
